I fully intend on nominating 4040-42 Walnut to the Historic Register, along with the other properties threatened if possible. 4040-42 was designed by Angus S. Wade, student of Willis G. Hale, in 1895.

Anyone know where to find the package submitted to the Art Commission?

Oops, I had posted the wrong link in my earlier post (now fixed). That link went to a related piece by Stephan Salisbury. Here is the correct link: https://www.inquirer.com/columnists/alex...ladelphia-franklin-parkway-20220907.html

As to the Art Commission, the submission will eventually be posted on their public meetings page here: https://www.phila.gov/departments/philadelphia-art-commission/public-meetings/
I don’t know when this will be scheduled, if they haven’t reviewed it already, but their next scheduled meeting is next Wednesday, Sept 14.

When I used to work out that way that house was always an experience to walk by. The kids that live there know to party.

Sorry, too late. The demo permits were already issued last month, so a historical nomination can not protect them.

Isn't there precedent to save buildings by nominating them before they're actually demolished? Everything is still standing.

I suppose at the worst, I could cross my fingers and pray that Campus Apartments sits on them for a year, and then nominate them when the permits expire.

Yea.

But on a positive note, the above projects at 1533 Ridge Avenue and 1723 Francis Street are fantastic. If only more projects could be designed by Canno and Gnome.

The above projects at 1533 Ridge Avenue and 1723 Francis Street are far superior in every way.
CANNO has not missed. They deserve recognition for their contribution to Philadelphia's architecutre.

I should add, Ambit is another excellent architecture firm. Let's hope this moves along.

The filing of the permits is what counts, unfortunately. You might have to wait for both the demo permits AND the underlying zoning demolition permits to expire. Recall that demolition permits are usually in a pair — the zoning permit and then the actual demolition permit.

There was one recent instance where the PHC had tabled a nomination until the permits expired and then designated the property. I can’t recall the specific case, but it was an outlier in that there were some ambiguities in city records about the relevant dates for the zoning permit seeking demo.

Additional article at the Inquirer today from Stephan Salisbury on some of the inside aspects and back-story of the revival of once-dead plans for a Calder Museum:
The project seemed dead. But after a 25-year delay, a Calder museum is finally coming to the Parkway | Inquirer.com

Yes, 2023 will determine the trajectory of the city (for better or worse).

#4 to resign.

Do all of these people really think they have a chance?

On another note, Terrill Haigler (yafavtrashman) declared his candidacy for an at large seat and I fully intend to vote for him.

Calder Museum

Some more good links covering the Calder project.

Excited for when we get to see more renders and get a better sense of the building.

I think Cherelle Parker was a legislative aid to the previous incumbent. And I'm sure the legislative aids for all these incumbents who are resigning to run for mayor will secure their seats. Who needs change, right?

Did Parker ever say why she wanted to lower the parking tax? To let cars just run roughshod over everything in the city? That's like the only piece of legislation I can think of that has her named attached to it.

He already has my vote. He'll be the only politician we've ever had who could actually make a dent in our litter problem. He's a walking/talking reason why we need real people to run for office, not just narcissistic wealthy people who are completely out of touch with everyday life.

A little nitpick, I agree with real people running for office, (at least those with pragmatic ideas to improve the city for all) but narcissism/wealth/out of touch don't go hand in hand. There are several council members that exude those traits that aren't "wealthy".
