I'm actually surprised at how low-rise St Thomas still is. I think there are only 2 buildings at 10s or more, and they are both early-mid 80's vintage. Meanwhile, Woodstock has probably a dozen at 10s or higher, and many of those are 12s.

Looks like the downtown mall and surrounding area might finally be redeveloped. Looks promising if it is fully implemented.

I think they said it is a distinct possibility if that arena gets built, I’d be all for it. Chatham’s a nice little city that has a lot of potential, especially downtown. Nice to see some major transformative proposals happening there now.

They have the right people backing this development.

The locals will balk at the costs the municipality will have to incur to relocate all those services into a central spot.

Dang that's massive. I'm concerned this just further siphons life out of the surrounding downtown if the idea is that it gives the City the opportunity to sell other municipal owned buildings in a city where there's not a high demand for office space, without the promise of adding new residential. Nothing about this proposal will directly increase property tax income to the City. It's a financial loser from day 1 from a municipal organizational perspective. I wish Chatham well but I'm not optimistic here.

This proposal is a million times better than the sad empty mall that currently occupies this space. I think if done right, this could really be a game changer for the city.

I didn’t see this until now, it looks amazing for Chatham. The existing mall is sad and depressing. When I lived there last year, the Fit4Less in the mall was my local gym so I was there quite often. Absolutely nothing goes on in downtown Chatham, so a development like this will definitely change the pace of things.

The city has been aiming to get an OHL team for a while and if the arena is constructed, it will pretty much guarantee that they will get one.

I parked across the street last weekend, on my first day trip to DT Chatham (despite living in London for 17 years). Quite impressive. There were about 3 really cool blocks downtown (this block, and one or two blocks in either direction, with many restored buildings). Really good Italian restaurant too.

Did you stop at the pizza place a block west of the building? Chatham is where Hawaiian pizza was invented! A small storefront on the north side of the historic main street that's a bit pricey now but a cool piece of local pride.
