The rumor is that the project slated for the site is dead. This is an assumption. Either a parking lot, or cleaning up the site to sell it.

the site is owned by centre venture so it wont be a parking lot....not sure what is happening....likely just the finishing of the demolition....as far as I know the project is no more dead than it ever has been.

All of that equipment and aggregate is associated with the street renewal on Smith.

Last time I was by there was about a month ago...didn't see anything to give me the impression.

^ I occasionally see people going in and out of the building, but they don't look like construction workers. I don't see any signs of actual work being done.

I hope they remove the canopy, the building is so much nicer without it.

The building appears much more "art-deco'y" without the canopies.

There was originally an enclosed promenade along Portage and Vaughn within the building footprint that was removed not too long after it opened. That would have been a great feature had it remained.

Given that bus shelters are increasingly... well, unusable... that canopy is really nice when waiting for a bus

especially since the shelter in front of the Bay on Portage was removed earlier this year.

I enjoy the benefits of the canopy, but as esquire wrote, it's clumsy.

I suppose that's what the canopy was intended to replace?

Interesting that The Bay had the enclosed promenade and then the canopy, while Eaton's had neither.

the canopy is protected....the enclosed walkway was amazing but people were sleeping in it so they closed it and added the canopy.

If people were sleeping in it back in the 30s and 40s... it would be a full on encampment today had it remained.

Still, it looked stunning.
