It has over 100 views in just 48 hours! Which tells you when people want to see Toronto proposals they go to the Toronto Proposals thread.

108 views and not a single post since you opened it. It will get buried in the Toronto section over time. Over a very long time because very few go to that room unless instructed to look at something like your new thread.

775 Vaughan Road looks promising.

It won't get buried if people truly want to check out Toronto proposals. And it's been 50 days without a single Toronto post in the Toronto section lol!
The sheer amount of Toronto content is not the problem. It's that it is in the wrong place. The Toronto section should be so Toronto it hurts. Like CP24. Every single proposal can have 30 different angles and updated every single day. Then Toronto posters can bring in the best or tallest into the National section for us ROCers to check out.

Oh for fucks sake ...

Stop spamming this forum with this 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. Your proposal thread in the Toronto section is irrelevant. Even if every proposal was posted there it doesn't preclude reposting it here too. Too think that these don't belong here is not being natioinalistic but rather regionalistic in a national forum.

There's a ziliion 30 to 50 storey proposals in Greater Vancouver that barely get a mention here, That's the problem.

What a pest.. told this person twice the entire compilation is already posted in the Projects and Construction thread at the top of the Toronto sub-forum.

Even gave him a link. Reminds me of those 3 monkeys...

I've been to Toronto 5 times by the way. So I don't hate it. I'm just tired of it throwing itself at me in the national section of SSP and every channel on my television.
Toronto insists upon itself.
I actually like CP24 a lot. In fact I paid extra just to have it. It is pure Toronto but doesn't pretend it is national. And I like the ads too. The Peel one I mentioned, "Ohh yaa", Sokolov, and does Mel Lastman still have an ad for his store running?

What you see on television has nothing to do with SSP. It you don't like all the Toronto proposals in this section or that most of the tallest developments are in Toronto than too bad. They belong in the Canadian section as much as anything else. What you can do to balance things out is post more proposals from outside of Southern Ontario,

The sheer amount of Toronto content is clearly the problem for you.

Why is the "Canadian City Proposals" thread the wrong place to post proposals from Toronto?

Shouldn't the same standards apply to the proposals that are posted from other Canadian cities? What would be the point of this thread then?

What's posted on this thread already represents a curated selection of all the active proposals in the GTA.

There are dozens of humdrum infill projects that would never get posted here. Stuff like this, or this, or this.

Toronto's volume of skyscraper development just is what it is. Complaining about it on a Canadian skyscraper development forum is like complaining about an overrepresentation of France on a wine forum.

There is no reason for the Toronto section of skyscraperpage to be neglected the way it is. You guys have more than enough local content to talk about.

I went to Toronto this summer and was very impressed with the city, a lot of good things are happening there!

The point that hipster duck just made, and what other Toronto users including myself have repeatedly been saying, is that the Toronto subforum on this forum is pointless with the existence of UrbanToronto. What is posted from Toronto here on the Canada forum is a cut-down, curated amount of projects. It would be a waste of time for us to discuss every small project ad nauseum on the subforum when that subforum exists as a better medium on a different forum, just as much as it would be a waste of time for us to talk about every single Toronto project possible on the Canada forum. There are some in-depth threads that Maldive has mentioned elsewhere on the forum (City Discussions, City Compilations, Supertall Construction) which also exist as an outlet for both Toronto and elsewhere.

Other than people getting annoyed that Toronto is building a lot of buildings there's no real rule violation or need to change anything at the moment. Like i've repeated many times already, if people from other cities want to see projects from other cities they're more than welcome to bring them forward. If a user thinks those projects are embarrassing or not as consequential then that's on them.

When Edmonton had the Connect2Edmonton forum we still had activity on our local section at SSP. A large part of that is due to Coldrsx posting everywhere. If some key Toronto forumers started posting regular updates in the local forum, others will follow.

Again with the Toronto section and having visited the city neither of which have anything to do with this thread. There's only one reason to bring up the Toronto section here and it's neither fair or equal. It's to stop Toronto content from being posted in these threads. The tallest threads were even brought up as being too Toronto . It's not Toronto's problem that it builds so much taller than everywhere else.

It's too muck work for me to post proposals on SSP. I wish everyone that does (Maldive.Andrew) takes the time to considers the extra effort of copying and pasting posts here in the new SSP Toronto proposal thread as a means to end this nonsense.

This thread would be better if the posts complaining about too much Toronto content were replaced by more Toronto proposal posts.

Actually I find the variety has improved too. There used to be the complaint that everything was blue glass (there has also been a monochrome trend) but there's more and more masonry with interesting forms and a bit of ornamentation (I kind of wonder if we're very slowly moving in a circular fashion away from modernism). If I have a complaint about Toronto proposals overall, it's that the footprints are too large.

Not Toronto, but Ottawa proposal. Just a massing model for now.

A block from Westboro (soon to be) O-Train Station. One of several new towers proposed or u/c along the Scott Street transit trench. These would be the tallest towers in the area at 40 floors, with the next tallest being the 2004 built Minto Metropole at 31 floors (once the tallest residential tower in Ottawa) and Lofty Westboro's proposed 30 floor tower.

The proposed redevelopment, consisting of two residential high-rise buildings and a pedestrian plaza and thoroughfare, intends to activate the encompassing streetscapes surrounding the site. The redevelopment of this site will require the demolition of the existing Granite Curling Club, commercial units, and their adjacent surface parking lots.

The proposed towers, each comprised of 40 storeys, encompass six storey podiums. The podium’s consistent datum lines along Scott Street varies as the podium steps down towards the south to maintain a sense of scale and materiality with the surrounding architecture.

The ground levels of the building’s podiums will house commercial spaces, amenity spaces, a gym, and bicycle storage.

The towers provide density to the neighbourhood, as they contain a total of 850 units, with 470 units in building 1 and 380 units in building 2.

Unit mix breakdown:

Building 1:
  • studio 47 10%
  • 1 bedroom 235 50%
  • 1 bedroom + den 47 10%
  • 2 bedroom 94 20%
  • 2 bedroom + den 47 10%

Building 2:
  • studio 38 10%
  • 1 bedroom 190 50%
  • 1 bedroom + den 38 10%
  • 2 bedroom 76 20%
  • 2 bedroom + den 38 10%

The project will provide a minimum of 0.6 residential parking spaces (+/- 510), as well as 0.1 visitor parking spaces (+/- 85), for a total of +/- 595 parking spaces. The parking garage will be access via two entrances, one located along Scott Street, and the other along Athlone Avenue.

^ Thank the lord... someone sporting signs of intelligent life.

I don't why I didn't stick that spammer on the Ignore list days ago... things are all better now.

As you suggested, a couple of new things today:

522 University Avenue l 233m l 62s l 522 University Holdings l WZMH l pre-construction

At first glance I thought this new proposal, like its neighbour just south at 488 University (207m) would be reinforcing the existing office building to support a new tower, but if fact they plan to demolish it and build an all new office building below the residential tower that will rise above.

The 522 University Avenue proposal is on the right, 488 University Avenue to its left (built). More than 600 residential units planned.

Northern Light

The existing brutalist office building.

EMPORIS

488 University u/c from 2017, you can glimpse the large cross-bracing added to the existing office building to support the new residential tower that was built on top.

G.L. 17

950 King West | 50m | 14s | Intentional Capital | Sweeny&Co l pre-construction

Re-submitted (again and again and again) and the only change I can see compared to past itinerations is the use of darker brick on the new carbuncle behind the (to be restored) Palace Arms Hotel.

Hard to believe Sweeny&Co have their name on this given their remarkable design solutions for a number of heritage sites that are adding new buildings in sensitive and creative ways (like The Bridge)

There's now 23,113 total floors for Toronto proposals over 25 storeys in the database and I'm sure the list will be missing more than a few in the 25 to 30 storey range. Below 25 storeys is not covered.

978 total floors for towers with 25 storey or more were completed in 2021
1124 in 2020
999 in 2019
760 in 2018
704 in 2017

Didn’t have a tower rendering for my earlier post on this proposal, so here it is along with the developer/proponent’s name.

Gorgeous imo ... especially if that’s white-grey “feathering of brick colour” all the way up, similar to Skale’s beautiful 1181 Queen Street West u/c:

I really enjoy scrolling through all the Canadian proposals. I don’t comment so much on them probably because I don’t know the context of the location/development. Keep them coming!

The tower itself isn't bad (although unremarkable) but it doesn't really work that well with the base. I wish the Palace Arms could just be restored as is without adding an addition. They could just stick the new tower block on the gas station site on the opposite side of Strachan. Would do a lot more to improve the area but of course gas station redevelopments are pricey.
