KW perplexes me in so many ways; I am legitimately curious to see what it looks like in 10-15 yrs from now.

So many interesting photos the past couple pages, I’ll share a few of my own pics soon, but came across an interesting view of Victoria with future potential. And yes, I’m also fascinated by KW - some photos make you think - what a mess..yet some parts of downtown look great with some really nice new development - plus it’s booming! Definitely a city to watch out for in Canada and I always look forward to the new KW pics being shared here.

Victoria photo of the north end of downtown overlooking Rock Bay. Perhaps the potential for the tallest buildings in Victoria as this land has been transferred over to the Songhees First Nation, and I’m not sure if they’ll be subject to height limits or the City of Victoria approval process. Even if so, I can’t see the city turning down anything even if it’s the 30 storey range if there is a 26 at the Bay site.

Source

“The site, bordered by Government and Pembroke streets and Rock Bay inlet, was at one point home to Victoria Gas and B.C. Electric — predecessors of B.C. Hydro. It’s been behind barriers for years as B.C. Hydro spent more than $128 million and 12 years to remediate what was one of the most contaminated sites in the country. A total of 140,000 tonnes of contaminated soil was removed from the site. Another 88,000 tonnes of sediments and foreshore was also removed and Rock Bay was drained and dredged…

Sam, who sits on the board of Matulia Holdings, said they have hired an architect and will now begin an engagement process with the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations that could take up to two years.

He said the site could used for anything from a downtown university to an arts and culture district, a tech hub or something no one has considered yet.”

Nice pic!

What is going on with the old racetrack? I thought it would have been demolished by now. Same with Northlands Coliseum for that matter.

It really is remarkable how bland it is. It gets talked up by locals as a destination neighbourhood with nifty restaurants and shops, which is sad. And K-W people have no idea, they think everywhere in Ontario outside of Toronto is basically the same. I've lost count of how many people I've met from there who've expressed astonishment at how urban and funky Hamilton is, for example. Because nobody along the 401 ever goes to Hamilton, what with all roads leading to Toronto and all.
Belmont Village was developed in the post-war era and you can really tell based on its urban form. There are a few great small businessess there that are the draw, since it's not pleasant to walk along Belmony Ave as you insinuated. At least KW has some proper walkable main streets in King St (Uptown Waterloo and Downtown Kitchener) as well as Queen St. in Downtown Kitchener. One could argue that Cambridge has more walkable main streets than either Waterloo or Kitchener, as it has three historic urban cores (Preston, Hespeler and Galt).

I believe that the casino and restaurant is still operating, but sadly, the rest is dormant and awaiting an ominous future.

Northlands is there because of the demo costs and no plan forward as of yet for the land.

The casino and restaurant have been closed since February 2019.

^^ I think it's the bend in the Bow that makes me think of Pittsburg sometimes (minus a giant Foster + Partners).

Those are some sick Montreal shots. For the first time in my life I'm happy with montreal's skyline. We don't even need more after that.

Great pics!

I enlarged them. Lots of detail to pore over.

I’ve never heard anyone describe Belmont Village as quaint. It’s a small, early mid-century commercial strip. There’s no Victorian shopfronts because the area would have been farmland at that time. The main attraction would be the restaurants.

No way really that's the name of those buildings? LOL, like I'm unaware of that. I just wasn't aware they put the logo on each of the towers. It looked good on the first phase, and is redundant on the last 2.

LOL, I'm not always negative on Montreal, just go back one page, but three towers with the same logo used just for sales is tacky. Even Maple Leaf Square didn't go as far as to put the Leafs logo on either it's towers. LOL, MONTREAL can be just as tacky as anywhere else when it tries. TOUR Des CANADIENS #2 and #3 are an overkill. I's love to see them build another dozen then see if you still think it's a good look. The sole purpose of that Logo is $$$$$ for the developer, it has nothing to do with team pride at this point. It cheapens the Logo if anything.
