Has the multi-story residential project at 258 Burnell St been cancelled? The shoring panels that were piled there since a few months back have been removed and nothing seems to be happening there. I recall it went as to council for variances. Anyone know anything?

Some funding announcements from the federal and provincial governments for the North End sewage plant upgrades. Looks like $200 million from the federal government.

Besides the direct benefits of the sewage plant upgrades, my understanding is the cost of the legally-mandated project has been a bit of an anchor around the neck of the City's budget, and has contributed to holding up BRT build-out.

NEWPCC is eating up all the Cities construction budget. And the uncertainty of the future phases held up other projects. Now that the uncertainty of what's coming is gone, maybe other projects will start to pick up again.

Where the City actually finds the money, $184 million, is another question.

They will increase water rates, there is no other way.

The uncertainty is not gone. They secured funding for the projects 2020 budget of $552m. Since then through scope increase $130m, inflation $190m and financing increase $33m the project still needs $353m.

Phase 3, which they are still debating is in the $700m+ range.

Costco is in a holding pattern here due to the high cost of construction and red tape issues. They are focusing on other jurisdictions and will reportedly revisit when things improve.

That’s good news for us central people, the proposal to change St James to a “business-only” Costco upon opening of a north and west location would be supremely less convenient for us weekly Costco peeps.

If Costco expansions in Winnipeg are "on hold" is there any information on who is driving concrete piles on the west Winnipeg Costco site and what it will be for?

The piles are going in a different site that what was previously Costco. The Costco site is east across the street (SE corner Festival Dr & Park Pl) from the westernmost piling activity...I believe. There are two sites under development out there.
