Yep that’s likely what it is. The pieces are massive. Far bigger than any tower crane

Of course you need a crawler crane to build a tower crane
But my guess it’s for whatever was loaded off that ship from Houston - maybe the hydrogen unit for the refinery.

They aren’t building anything, they perform these “mega maintenance” periods at the refinery where a couple thousand temp workers come in and do the work. Massive cranes like the ones at the Gulf Operators lot are used and you can usually see them from quite a distance.

Why do the people of Saint John get so excited when the nasty empire does something for their gain only. This is just another thing to make this dump look more of a cesspool.

Drive around this hole lately? The weeds growing along the sidewalks and in the medians look just great . We look like a really run down hell hole. This is not normal. But the ppl here just don't care, what a shame.

I think someone forgot to change profiles before quoting and agreeing with himself.

Also Mark the reason that we get excited about cool projects like this is because this is a development/architecture forum.... It is sort of what this whole place is for. If you want to complain about anything and everything head to the CBC comments section for likeminded people.

Yes the hole sucks. But if it wasn't a hole he'd be bitching about the old Woolworths. What Irving has to do with the hole is beyond me. Irving preferences aside- I am in the middle of a fight with JDI- their regular and gigantically complex and expensive shutdowns are undeniably of interest to a development forum, keeps them competitive with dramatically larger companies (read- keeps skilled labour employed across the Maritimes and Quebec), and brings in a pile of people with cash to burn regularly. Mark can suck an egg.

I really wouldn’t put much care for “Mark”. He has done this for years now, he’ll come in and shout as many words as he can with no context and then come back in a few months and do the same thing. I don’t know why this thread has to be the place he takes his dismay of Saint John out on. Since he cares so much perhaps he could read through the thread and gain some insight into the positive things happening and the context behind things that are negative. There are plenty of topics and discussions to have on here so no point in wasting time on him.

The mayor shared this photo today of the most up to date container terminal modernization project. If you drive by where the tool booths were you can see a lot of action going on for the new rail lines in behind the warehouses.

Worthy of note the ship on the left compared to the right. The Port is clearly anticipating a huge increase in the size of vessels arriving compared to what we see now.

Wow that’s going up fast. I’m guessing this developer has the same crew and just keeps the momentum going. Wouldn’t want to give up that crane rental too!

The crane is incredibly visible coming down Somerset, it will definitely be easy to keep tabs on construction progress, I think I can even see it from my window on Mount Pleasant.

Realtor posted this to Facebook saying it’s coming to West Saint John. This is likely a rendering of the building proposal mentioned on here the other day for Wilson Street.
