Yeah

For a while on SSP it seemed like Montreal was going through a development lull, but looks like it's making up for lost time now.

And that's a shame really! There were some good Calgary forumers, and there still are!

where did they decamp to?

Some Calgary-specific navel-gazing site? That is what happened with the bulk of the Montreal-based forumers about a decade ago: they all decamped to Mtlurb (I lasted but a few days there, because I antagonized the Supreme Overlord of the site, Malek, who was banned from SSP for being an insufferable prick).

I really don't understand why people only want to hear about their immediate city. It gets really boring after awhile.

Indeed. The majority of Vancouver forumers rarely interact with the national forum, but at least they're still here in abundance in the local Vancouver forum.

I have definitely noticed this. I barely know how to post a picture but am often the only BC forumer in several national threads. I have more than once had to remind the ROC that we exist and are part of the country. It happened again recently.

I wonder if that’s where Mr. woot is now? And yeah, the cities that don’t have a dedicated forum tend to be better represented on here. For instance there’s no shortage of Ottawa updates in spite of the city lacking a proper skyline.

Mostly to Skyrise Cities. We had a fantastic tight knit group back in the day that routinely had get togethers and then the forum became overrun with rightwing trolls and the mods did nothing to stop them. One by one they all left. It’s a ghost town in the Calgary section now. I myself only go to Skyrise for updates on local projects.

and what did you do with the former Calgary forumer's dead bodies? lol

I was wondering what happened on this forum from that past that may have resulted in lack of prairie folk on here, from just the run ins with trolls i've had in the last few months I've been here, I thought it was probably because of that. But now that you say that there use to be a conservative mindset on this left leaning forum like this maybe explains it too, I don't know.

agreed. I want to read about not just Niagara, the GTA or southern Ontario, but what is going on across the nation from Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Edmonton, BC, Martimes, Newfoundland and everywhere in between.

It makes me feel more connected despite the vast distances of Canada.

Political angle was beside the point. It started as one upset over the denigration of the suburban lifestyle (it's a f-ing skyscraper forum) joining to destroy the place posting over the horrors of downtown crime and multi-family ownership. That attracted a few more that encouraged a kid to plaster the forum with hundreds of blurry images of the same McMansions being built.

SSP Calgary never adopted project threads for the valid reason that they do limit the direction of conversation. They are the most effective way to get updates on the projects that have one's interest than going through ten pages of blurry mcmansion photos and condo ownership being bad.

just looking at the Toronto thread my head feels like it's going to explode trying to absorb all the construction taking place at once

Chad was a big part of the posts. Especially the construction updates.

As I just mentioned in the church thread, a couple days ago was the first time I'd ever been to DT Kitchener. Shamefully, I'd only passed through on the highway. Anyway, it was eye opening. I see the talk here about what's going on and now that I've seen it first hand, I get it. Maybe because it was new to me, but I felt some real energy there. There's definitely some aspects that make it feel like a bigger city than it is.

By the way, I love the Kaufman Lofts. It ain't Mayfair in London, but I've never seen anything like this here outside a big city. Doesn't have the architecural intracacies you'd ideally want to see but I love the wall effect along the street. I'd love to see more of that in the medium sized cities. Basically, places that are too big to have a quaint downtown.

I also noticed that there's a Crowne Plaza. I pictured those as more bigger city hotels. I stayed in a couple in the US. One in Columbus and the other I can't remember. But I see there's actually one in Fredericton. There's also a big one in Niagara but that's not much of a surprise given the tourist volume.

The dream streetscape. Can't have this here but I'll take what we can get.
