I had zero idea this project existed until I saw it poking up over Central Park yesterday.

Another shot from the same area. The two white and grey towers at the front can be seen in that first shot as well off centre - left.

Nope. 500 high rises can't simply be surplanted by rowhouses or medium rises. Can you see a single rowhouse? (obviously townhomes are a more apt comparison for Vancouver's modern podiums as rowhomes are identical in both look and layout to one another. ) I don't see one which means the towers make a difference.

Ottawa is an Ontario city. The architectural designs are more in tune to Montreal though.

Id' say you're both right. It does look different than if there were only low or mid rises so the highrises are having an effect. But it doesn't necessarily look "better". The heavy lifting in terms of the image's beauty is definitely in the setting. Besides, I personally enjoy aerial views of central Paris as much as Chicago or Barcelona as much as Miami despite their relative lack of highrises.

Northwest Arm, Halifax. You can see the 7177 Quinpool Rd site under construction here and it clarifies why you might want a tower there; nice views. This is also a mini development "node" which has the Manulife buildings (former Maritime Life), CBC, and some other offices.

The view down Joe Howe dr toward the arm, dingle and open ocean is one of my favourite perspectives. It's an area that should be much more built up and probably would be if it wasn't dominated by upper/middle class SFHs.

I can't see a single rowhouse either, because there aren't any. But you spectacularly missed my point, which was that the view would be equally as striking with virtually any other lowrise buildings instead of the existing towers (or indeed, without any at all).

Everything striking about this view of Vancouver has to do with its surroundings, and has nothing to do with the buildings themselves.

Yes we get it, you hate everything and anything about Vancouver except its surroundings. Everything in Ontario and Quebec is superior to us rubes out West.

I'm not sure having different aesthetic tastes constitutes as ignorance. But yes, a statement that applies to an aerial view isn't going to apply equally to a traditional skyline view.

There's definitely something going on in Waterloo. It ain't pretty, and being mostly devoted to overseas exchange students from China, it ain't exactly the harbinger of a movement toward improved urban areas, but it can't be ignored (when you live in the area).

Seems like anything and everything touched by China invariably turns toward the epic. Not saying Waterloo is "epic" per se, but it's certainly being shaped in palpable ways by the massive dragon in the room more so than other places.
