Passed through Corktown and the Port Lands for first time in a dozen years at least and saw what’s going up and has gone up and not much to get excited about. But I did like River City 3. Perhaps it’s divisive (don’t really know as I don’t follow the proposal or construction thread) but I would love for more of this right down in the CBD to break up some of the monotony in terms of style. I just happened to notice it while visiting a former Pan Am Games athlete village building that’s now affordable housing.

I mean that is a truly depressing sight. I would choose even little old Kerrisdale over that oppressive neighbourhood. I don't care how much Toronto has to offer.

Quebec City's Festival d'Été FEQ is back after a two year hiatus and the crowds have been quite something thus far. This event truly transforms the city and I realize now how much I missed it.

One of the points people often bring up against bikes is that it's not practical in Canada due to the climate. That's debatable (and cars or transit don't necessarily work well in bad winter weather either) but in any case there's a lot of utility in being able to bike during the nicer parts of the year, as this illustrates. The cost of this infrastructure is extremely small compared to car infrastructure, with land costs dominating in cities.

Climate, distance, gradient, length of hair/ makeup applications impact bike travel. Miketoronto's preferred planning of a mixed use centre surrounded by endless bedroom suburbs is less practical for cycling and a city like Toronto with 3 millions persons and 80 million square feet of office space in a few square kilometres of its 630 square kilometre land area is alot like miketoronto's vision.

Electric bikes change the distance and gradient part a lot. I think the sweet spot for bikes is people who want to get around their neighbourhood or who live in inner city areas that are not walkable to the busiest parts of downtown. That's a lot of people and a lot of traffic. If you can spend 1% of your transportation budget on bike infrastructure (or other small electric vehicles) and that supports a modal share shift of 2-3% that's a win.

Definitely. They are still very niche. I see just as many hoverboards which leaves me envious. I'd kill myself.

Goods and services are still the lifeblood of a community. Also, personal vehicles are probably the most efficient way for younger families that have grown out of bike trailers to move about.

I'm surprised how different the towers of True North Square look. From that angle, one looks like a really nice mid-century and the other like a suburban office park tower.
