i think it has little or nothing at all do do with whether the jobs are “private sector” or “public sector” and everything to do with whether they are productive or not.

Telecom, airlines, you name it.
There's a lot of political power in Calgary, and there's no way Edmonton can do anything. Other than look for a night mayor, I suppose

As for Edmonton, it appears that Telus shrunk its presence in Edmonton and increased in Calgary. Telus has some presence on Jasper Ave. Then that became minimal. Next thing you know, Calgary ended up with a 60 story tower courtesy of Telus. Very nice

What you are talking about has been going on for years. This is nothing new. Edmonton will continue to grow and thrive, just at a different level than the city to the south. Canada has 3 major centres, unfortunately we are not one of them.

According the google Telus headquarters is still listed as Vancouver.

The word "Headquarters" gets thrown around and misused with reckless abandon. Every office more than a couple floors these days is marketed as a new headquarters, it's ridiculous.

Telus' actual HQ is still very much in Vancouver, as are almost all the execs. In fact just as many Telus execs are based out of Edmonton as Calgary.

Edmonton is as much a major center as Ottawa or Calgary. Montreal and Vancouver are a level up and Toronto on it's own above those 2. Just my unscientific take and rankings.

I'd agree, as status is very much tied to overall population of the City & Metro Area.

I would agree with Ottawa but look at the number of head offices in Calgary. Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver and maybe Montreal……then the rest. Nothing wrong with Edmonton, we are doing very well, just not in the same class in terms of corporations.

Born and raised here. Raised a Family, I have owned a business here for 20 years. Employed dozens of hard working certified workers.

Edmonton is a (Shell) of what it once was. Most people with any sense see this.

Brick and Mortar don't make the city. Entrepreneurs that focus on business do. Governments that don't overreach and allow free markets to flourish are needed.

Competent Leadership at City Hall that isn't ideologically based is needed.

Edmonton is still a Hot mess of political correctness and self gratification at City Hall.
