This website has a pile of historic aircraft photos, including over 80 at YOW: https://www.airhistory.net/pub/show.php?location_id=1195&per_page=160

Some good oldies at YOW of the likes of First Air (of course), Pilgrim, US Air (BAC 1-11), Piedmont (F-27), City Express, Air Ontario, Intair, AC 727 in the double red cheatline, etc.

Lots of changes likely, you're definitely right. At the same time I don't think they'd remove all YHZ-Europe if they were planning on flying any in 2023.

I wonder if the rumoured WS YOW-LGW ever happens though.

Trust me, we're ALL hoping Porter pulls through for us.

In response to the WS YOW-LGW rumour: That has to be one of the funniest things I have ever heard. Westjet adding direct Transatlantic routes from YOW I have never heard of this rumour, is it something everyone knows about? I bet you anything that this rumour was started as an office joke at Westjet headquarters. "Hey, should we think about adding direct routes from Ottawa?" *Entire floor starts laughing*.

Yep,Air Canada has made the Ottawa YOW- Edmonton YEG flight route a (seasonal) destination according to Edmonton Airport Wikipedia page. I’m not surprised to see AC cut it for Winter 2022-23. As it signals
that YEG - YOW on AC has demand during Spring/Summer months.

Although Ottawa- Edmonton nonstop flights✈️will still be operating few times weekly on Flair/ Swoop Airlines this upcoming winter season.

Believe it or not, for LGW's summer 2019 slot allocation, WestJet applied for and was awarded 3 additional weekly slots to operate YOW-LGW on a 7M8. But given YOW can seemingly never catch a break, of course by summer 2019, the MAX had yet to be ungrounded, ditto the time of the 2020 slot award and then we all know what happened to the world. If you want the proof, go back about 50 pages as someone posted the PDF link on here.

Today’s departure count: 66 - update 62

Today’s cancellation count: 1 - update 5

Evidently all transcon routes have more summer than winter demand. You're correct, Swoop are showing YOW-YEG at 4x weekly this winter (3x for the month of October only) while Flair is showing 2x weekly just like last winter.

We'll see if this is a one-off (excluding the prior two winters of course) for AC on the route or a longer-term thing of going seasonal.

Porter should cut a deal with some European carrier and do codeshares through YOW.

Wow totally nuts. This is 100% news to me. Not sure if I would have used it though personally given how far LGW is and the fact that AC was going to LHR. Also, forgive my ignorance, but I thought the MAX does not have the range between YOW and Europe. If it did, AC has no excuse for completely grounding YOW-LHR.

YOW-LHR is easily within range for a MAX.

Well if London is your final destination, LGW is just as good as LHR for central London if you don't mind paying a bit extra to ride the Gatwick Express to Victoria Station. This differs from the Heathrow Express that goes to Paddington. You can of course also ride the tube instead for LHR.

So appears that YOW-YEG route hasn’t been removed after all! It resumes tonight AC383 at 1900 with A223! The return from YEG is redeye arriving here at 0543! I checked random dates in the summer and appears loaded on the schedule.

Disregard…I’ve missed read it and now I see it has become seasonal only. Brutal

I wonder how much that interline agreement with WestJet is worth while to BA. Between EI and BA, they could use an evening departure bank at YOW to build a mini-hub at YOW and save their TMV flights for O/D traffic.

There's a lot of potential for the Porter expansion. But we unfortunately don't know yet how much Porter will rely on YOW to connect passengers and how big of a hub it will be. I think it will be a huge part of their expansion and they will use it to connect outside traffic but until they announce it, it's pure speculation right now. I actually don't even think it will be out of the question for Porter to use Toronto traffic to connect passengers in YOW, those who don't want to deal with Pearson. The BA idea would be amazing. BA would very much benefit from coming in before AC resumes YOW-LHR. That would really tick off AC and using BA would open a world of connections overseas.

Anybody know what our current air agreement is with the UK. Is it generally open skies. That is to say can BA even fly to Ottawa if they want to? Iceland air seems like another potential entrant and partner for Porter but I understood they were limited to a few airports by Transport Canada.

Porter and Icelandair already have an interline agreement, so you can buy tickets that connect with them currently. Would be cool if they flew direct to Ottawa, though.
