Where did you find that? Do you have any more information about it? A project like that would be transformational for that portion of 200 S.

From the citizen portal:
Name: LOCAL
Developer: Subtext
Height: 125 ft (requires design review)
Unit count: 250
Parking: 271
Misc: 5,500 sq. ft. of commercial space, 17,000 sq. ft. amenity space.

Looks pretty good to my eye, certainly better than the stuff along 400S. The scale of it makes it look like something from Denver.

I'm all for development and density, but if it's taking out Twilite Lounge, I will cry. And I'm really gonna miss my neighborhood crown burger.

Just need Crown Burger to get into the street level spot.

Nice looking project. I hope that one make it to the finish line. That would change that area dramatically.

Great Project! That entire immediate area could use a lot more of this type of design and massing. My first thought when I saw the pic was that someone was posting a reference about a current project in Denver. This and some of the other most recently announced residential make me believe that Salt Lake's downtown residential density and design average is improving.

And one less drive-through downtown.

This is honestly what 'The Randi' should have been required (at min) to be instead of letting them build just 6 floors on a corner in the D-1. Never again.

Cool project! Really hoping it will show other developers that 10+ floor buildings work just as well as 5-7 floor ones and that it will start a new trend.

Beautiful project.

I have not visited the Twilight. Looks like a generic neighborhood bar to me. What am I missing?

I would think that the bars that line 200 South could occupy retail space on ground floors of developments of this type. It would certainly look better, and would maximize space.

Having lived in Chicago, there were several high end bars downtown. I find it odd that SLC doesn't seem to have many upscale bars. I was excited when Brettschneider proposed the development where 370 West temple is. Too bad that didn't pan out.

Comrade and Pusherman, no hard feelings. Your mothers and I still love you.

I know it's off-topic for the forum, but to answer Ironwood's question, Twilite is a dive bar with charm. It has the original decor from the 60s/70s--big rock fireplace, cozy vinyl booths. And drinks are cheap.

Most of the bars in the east-downtown neighborhood are "upscale" bars where it's hard to get a drink for under $10. UnderCurrent, Copper Common, HSL, Mortar & Pestle, Brick & Mortar, etc. And I think it's nice to have a bar or two that caters to the college crowd (and the cheap-asses).

And I worry with Utah's dearth of liquor licenses that a neighborhood bar once lost is lost forever.

Ideally, yes. Unfortunately, commercial leases are rising in general and new buildings typically charge higher rents than older buildings can. The new spaces tend to be occupied by chain stores or sit empty. We end up losing a lot of businesses to that process, either completely or to the burbs, that have been around for a long time and are endearing to longtime residents. These places, while often not offering the highest-quality services and amenities, are usually more affordable and charming than chain stores. Something unique is definitely lost when they're gone.

I'm glad Ken Sanders, Tavernacle, and Peoples Coffee for example all found new locations in SLC recently.

Neighborhood bar yes. Generic, not these days. It's also one of the only affordable bars still left downtown (and it's better/nicer than Cheers or Juniors imo). Very popular hang-out place for college students.

The only thing I don't like about Twilite is that they don't accept cards. Maybe a little bit TOO old school in that sense.

Gosh. I cant tell you how many times i ate at that Crown Burgers when i was the Marketing Director for a company on Beck Street back in the day. Besides how incredible the burgers were, the thing i remember the most is how i smelled like smoke for the rest of the day! LOL! At least this development is worthy of the memory.

On a side note, Astra is advancing skywards so fast. Enjoying watching the progress from over here in West Palm Beach, FL.
