Edmonton is the Rodney Dangerfield of Canadian cities............it gets no respect. New Brunswick is it's provincial counterpart.

I would argue that Winnipeg is the Rodney Dangerfield of Canadian cities. Full agreement on the New Brunswick provincial counterpart.

Just to provide some context for those who may not be familiar with Edmonton, there was a large rail yard across the northern edge of downtown right up until the late 90s. The area to the north of the railyard (the right of this picture) was mostly warehouses and industrial and such, before giving way to a working class residential area.

It has actually filled in at a pretty decent rate. MacEwan University, Rogers Place and the ICE District, various smaller scale residential and commercial.

Needs another 10-15 years of development to really have meaningful change.

Halifax today. The cruise ship is Oasis of the Seas, 4th largest in the world.

Looks like there's more to do on the ship than there is in downtown Halifax.

They do say it has 20 restaurants to choose from. Maybe downtown Halifax will one day get 20 restaurants.

To me the cruise ship is less interesting than the city view but the ships tend to encourage people to take these pictures. Richmond Yards stands out and it's only about 2/3 of the way to being topped out. It's not very clear but you can also see the Joseph Howe area taking shape. There are 3 secondary areas growing (that one, Robie/Almon, Wyse Road) and each has one or more 30+ storey towers planned or under construction. Eventually there will be a need to connect these areas with higher order transit.

If they could navigate the damned thing up the muddy Petitcodiac, we could show them a swell time in Moncton.

only 20 restaurants for 6000 people?

Naw, the ship is damn interesting and I have absolutely no interest living on it.

It will be nice to see cruise lines operation on the great lakes again. Just looked at Vikings options and a 10 Day trip around all five lakes startes at $36,500 USD per person.

Some nice recent shots! I love anything Montreal. Not a bad pic it seems. While it's true that Edmonton, Calgary, and Ottawa are all works in progress, Is it fair to state that Montreal looks "finished"?..I would even go out on a limb and say that QC and Halifax look finished and complete. Maybe it's because they are all older multilayered cities?

YVR skyline shots are kind of the reverse. From a distance and from most angles, it doesn't capture the scale of build-up downtown. But a good angled aerial shows how many individual buildings there are
The Edmonton photo has a Vancouver in the '70s vibe

I'm sorry but, those scotia towers, with their concrete blank walls facing the water. Awful. Tear these down!
