Great! Your weather station is also one of my favorite sites

EDIT: Nope it's set right. There just isnt enough wind in the back yard to move the sensor in the right direction lol

It’s going to be freezing tomorrow. I’m curious to see how fast the drop will be. Later this afternoon should be our first rain readings also.

Here is some pics and a short video. Keep in mind the video was shot when the storm was beginning. Things got even worst afterwards but wanted to get away from windows so stopped filming.

Sorry for the f bombs, what started out as fun storm watching turned serious as trees started falling down.

Was 30C (humidex of 36) and sunny yesterday before the storm in Tremblant. It dropped to 17C after the storm.

Even warmer and more humid in Montreal. 31C (humidex of 38) but the storm missed the island. It's already the 4th day above 30C this year.

Today was another summer like day in Montreal. 25C with a humidex of 31.

The warmspots yesterday were L'Assomption and L'Acadie, QC at 32.7C.
Yearly high humidex reading of 41 in Sainte-Clotilde, QC as well.

Warmspot today was Greenwood, NS at 30.1C.

Terrible! How many times do tornadoes occur in that area? The photos are not seen

Not a tornado, it was a derecho.

Quote:
A derecho is a widespread, long-lived, straight-line wind storm that is associated with a fast-moving group of severe thunderstorms known as a mesoscale convective system. Derechos can cause hurricanic or tornadic-force winds, actual tornadoes, heavy rains, and flash floods.
The system also passed through central NB yesterday, and, although there was a line of strong thunderstorms and a tornado watch, we did not experience any damage like that seen in QC or ON. Moncton and southeastern NB only experienced some light shower activity.

Currently 13C and a light rain shower in Moncton, going up to 17C later this afternoon.

Only 17C officially at YYT, but most of the more centre city stations have hit 20 now. Except poor Marty. Freezing out there in Summerville lol

I was actually watching a YouTube video a few days ago and they explained what a derecho was. First time I had heard about it, and then for one to actually happen a few days later is pretty coincidental, especially considering how uncommon of a thing they are.

Currently sunny and 19 at 10:30am. High this afternoon of somewhere in the low 20s, with increasing cloudiness and some rain later this evening.

EDIT: Just hit 20.

Anyone know what this is? The green is new growth, and the dried stuff I’m holding is the dead stuff I’m cutting away.

Looks like oregano. Plant some tomatoes and you'll have yourself the makings of good pasta sauce come later this summer.

Thank you! It’s def oregano. I smashed some leaves between my fingers and it’s clear.

Marty, tell your girlfriend to go back to the fish flakes and leave the gardening to me, a professional.

Now, though, there’s another plant I don’t know what it is because I thought it was the oregano lol. I think it might be rosemary or sage. It’s too small yet to tell much of anything.

I was also in Mont-Tremblant over the weekend with my in-laws from Toronto. I was just outside the storm path somehow as I only experienced heavy rain there.

I only realized something happen on my way back home. There were tons of fallen trees on the road, sometimes blocking the entire road except one shoulder one on side where traffic in both directions had to coordinate to pass through. Tons of roads were completely blocked off. Volunteers left and right cutting trees with their chain-saws.

I was able to drive about 20 min, and then the road became impassible due to live wires on Route 323. The town of Amherst was so overcrowded they had to open the church to provide shelter. Couple of tour buses were stuck there and the passengers were going to spend the night in the church. I didn’t intend to do that, and a municipal worker told me the only way back to Ottawa was to go back to Hwy 117/A-15 then take A-50 at St-Jerome, so I eventually had to backtrack and take a 2-hr detour to go back home.

And the damage was just as bad in Ottawa. Fallen trees all over. My gazebo collapsed. Lots of blackouts on the way back home. 90% of the gas stations were out of power and people were almost fighting to get gas in the remaining ones. Some people were out of gas and waited at the closed gas stations until they would re-open.

Anyway, that was quite the experience. The last derecho I experienced before that was in 1999 and it was just as bad.

Do you have a source on this? My degree is in climatology and the humidex was always a cause for debate because of how it's calculated.

We’re having pizza while the downhill neighbour serenades us. He was in Florida for like four months. Lovely to have him back! And the uphill neighbour is out gardening. They both love the weather station and check the link lol

He told me to stop clapping and throw bills lol

EDIT: My station maxed out at 24.5C today, compared to I believe 23 officially. And that’s with relatively little humidity today. I’m curious to see what the maximum difference between downtown and the airport can be over the course of the summer. Rain should start soon and tomorrows forecast high is 20 degrees lower .

Low of 7C this morning.

The warmspot was Sandy Shelburne Point, NS at 25.3C.
