Even if it were true that there would be a shortage of trains around the time SLS opens, is this not the SkyTrain system???

Like, we might just be the most flexible system as far as train running/combinations on earth. I feel like we have numerous options available, including delaying retirement of the 90s-delivered Mark I trains, or even running a relay service with 2-car Mark II trains between Surrey Central and Langley until enough trains are available to run them all full-length.

AFAIK the Mark Vs are set to be delivered constantly from next year, with the base order supplemented by options that could theoretically keep coming all the way through to 2036. Here's the delivery schedule from the Mark V thread on CPTDB:

Quote:
Base order: 205 cars 41 sets
2021: 30 cars 6 sets, 2025 delivery
2024: 70 cars 14 sets, 2028 delivery
2026: 100 cars 20 sets, 2032 delivery
2028: 100 cars 20 sets, 2034 delivery
2030: 100 cars 20 sets, 2036 delivery
Apparently the first option for an additional 30 cars (6 sets) was exercised in July of last year.

SLS opens in 2028, so barring any issues, by then we'd have received the entire base order of 205 cars and chunks of the additional orders.

15 minutes isn't bad, the muni in San Francisco in the evening has some trains once an hour.

Are all the stations in Surrey going to be in the middle and above the road or are some off to the side of the road? DRiving down Fraser Hwy, there will need to be a lot more work to get the highway ready to accommodate.

Only the 140 Street station is expected to be in the centre median. All other stations (and most of the guideway) will be located on the north side of Fraser Highway.

From the roll plots that I saw in the previous consultations, not a lot of property acquisition will be needed for this alignment. The 160 Street Station for example will fit snugly in between the existing road and the Filipino bakery.

Canada Line spurs are both 15 minute off-peak as well.

166th station rendering and footprint layout seems to now suggest a side by side platform, not centre platform. To be expected I guess with 166th not a terminus station with the one phase build. Not sure how accurate the guideway layout diagram is, but it seems to suggest the storage track is now side by side instead of in the middle. That would make three storage tracks now as side by side - 140th station, 166th station, and presumably VCC-Clark would be converted to a storage track. From what I can recall all storage tracks previously are in between the main guideways.

Also south side alignment in ALR section - I thought it would have been the north side given the unfinished nature of the curb/light standards vs. the south side on Fraser Highway.

There will be a storage siding near Fraser St. so I think the existing track at VCC-Clark will stay as it is.

Does anyone know whether/where there would be an OMC in this segment?

There is guaranteed to be an OMC and it's expected to be situated towards the Langley end of the expansion. I wouldn't be surprised if 184 is where it ends up.

Direct link to Report which includes renderings of stations, cross sections, a 4 year build timeline, and an expected operating service date of late 2028.

Thanks.

Anyone know why 160th St. station has that mezzanine?
Seems that other stations on the system have been renovated to remove mezzanines (Main St. - Science World).

That said, Surrey Central's north stationhouse included a minor expansion of the existing mezzanine. Perhaps there is some vertical circulation benefit to be had.

Perhaps there's some future plan to tie-in to future developments, like malls or something. I can't think of any other reason aside from maybe for some reason 166 had to be build tall.

Surrey Central I imagine it's more just that they're working around the old design, which was sort of about allowing for shops and staff rooms(and probably also a tie-in that never happened). Though who knows, maybe there's a plan there too with thew new mezzanine. I'd hate to think it's aimless, something an architect designed solely to make them different from other stops. Seems like too much work for something pointless.

Unrelated, anyone else kinda hate that these stations are just called "166 Street" or "152 Street?" Like my desire for Surrey/Langley to bring named streets back aside, it feels lacking in character or distinction. I have seen plenty of city kids bitching about their troubles naming the stops on the 502 or figuring out where they were. I mean I know, I'm from there, but maybe "Willowbrook Station" or "East Fleetwood Station" and such could add some flair.

it depends, are you trying to build for maximum ease of use or not? for me, someone who has never been in Surrey other than to drive through on the freeway, i would have no idea where these places were without having to look them up. where-as if i was looking to go somewhere, it would be easier to know exactly where i am. "i am between street x & x, etc".

look at the Canada-Line as an example, almost all of them have the street name. one could argue CoV City Hall is very well known, but they still added "Broadway" to it first.

these could also be just working names for the project and end up renamed later. its still pretty early in this project.

90% chance that it ends up becoming "152nd-Fleetwood Centre" and "140th-Green Timbers" closer to construction.

or vice-versa, like Oakridge - 41st and Langara - 49th.

I'm not super familiar with this part of Surrey, but it seems like there are a lot of stations for a relatively short stretch, or am wrong? Like I said, I really am not familiar with the population/node layouts along Fraser Hwy., but seems like some stations are very close to each other insections (180/184, and 160/166). But I definitely could be wrong, and those areas need the separate stations. It is really unreal still for me to see this becoming so real, this will truly be a sight to see to have full rapid transit into Langley and through suburban Surrey. I will really take the area into another league, and those areas were already some of the fastest growing in the Lower Mainland even before the train.

The spacing of blocks SoF tends to be larger than what you'll see in CoV. The two you mention (190 - I assume that was a typo) are roughly 1.5km apart. A lot of the Expo Line CoV stations are similar or closer to each other than that (and yes a few are further apart).

Developers have bought plenty of lots along Fraser Hwy and have been waiting for this to happen and to see how big they'll be allowed to build. The 140th station will be at the edge of downtown Surrey and right next to the outpatient centre. The 152nd station is kind of 'outer Fleetwood' and then 160th and 166th stations will be in that town centre - and I expect there will be a lot of redevelopment along Fraser there.

Then it passes over the ALR (and so it's a loooong spacing between stations) before getting to 184th and 190th stations. That's Clayton and I don't know how much redevelopment is expected - just that past posts on here show some of the locals (renters) are scared of being priced out of the area and so don't want Skytrain in their hood. Then there's 196th, the border between Surrey and Langley and the location of Willowbrook mall, and then the final station at 203rd at Langley Centre.

Anybody know the capacity of the new 5 car Mark V trainsets? There is a more efficient seating arrangement, so I'm wondering if the ultimate capacity has been revised to be greater than 25 700 pphpd.
