We aren't hosting the Olympics? That was a bit of a special case.

They should absolutely get on the bandwagon of redeveloping the land they own, more than just throwing up temporary modular housing in a parking lot.

also, who says new City Hall will be by Broadway/Cambie? Maybe they want to move it somewhere else. a waterfront City Hall could be nice after all.

i think it was a missed opportunity for CoV to not pay for the rights to call it "Olympic Village" hence why it is only called "The Village." TransLink/Canada-Line paid for it though.
I think the City is just scared of everything. There just isn't any bold leadership when it comes to anything that can propel this city forward.

The only reason why there is an OV in the first place is because of a nudge from the Feds and Provincial governments, as well as the Olympic council, etc. However, for the past 15 years, this city is just resting on its laurels, just like everywhere else in Vancouver. There is simply so much that can be achieved from the areas around the OV and we just let time and opportunities slip away. Well, like I said numerous times before, our loss is the suburb municipality gain.

236,000 sq ft lab and office building proposed near Main Street SkyTrain

Low Tide Properties, the real estate arm of Lululemon founder Chip Wilson, has submitted a new development permit application to build a 148-ft-tall, eight-storey, mixed-use commercial building in the False Creek Flats of Vancouver.

The application for 1628 Station Street — near the western end of the CN Rail Vancouver main yard — calls for an infill development on a vacant lot.

Can almost guarantee that the "louvre pattern" (vertical fins) will not be nearly as prominent as the render shows, so the most prominent architectural feature of this building will be the green tinted glass, unfortunately.

Sure would be nice to see a few of these new buildings use a real tinted glazing instead of the done to death clear leaded glass and vertical fins to achieve better building performance, because there is an oppressive amount of green glass (and glass in general) in this city. To the point that I would call it urban blight.

Interesting. I thought I'd heard somewhere that the current owner could not do spec, and so maybe they have a tenant in hand?

It's now owned by GWL Realty. They can do spec - they started Vancouver Centre 2 on Seymour without any tenants signed. There's a company working on site servicing for St Paul's which has been using the site as a compound for their equipment for a couple of months, so while there wasn't anything actually happening on the site itself, it looked like it might be.

Is that depiction accurate? That building looks like it's way too close to the Pacific Central building.

That's the same render that Rize had when it was called Onyx. Here's a smaller version. The lot's exactly where it always was - there's a driveway to the bus station between the development parcel and the station, but it's a 13 floor building, so it's much taller than the station.

Here's the same image, smaller, so easier to see. (There are more images on the architect's website, but they're also large).

there is Ventana Construction signs up now. diff than the Jacob Bros signs up for the Sewer Project ...... and the digging/earth moving with the excavator on site today seems new and in regards to excavation.

and Ventana seems to do these sorts of projects on the regular >> https://ventanaconstruction.com/commercial-industrial/

I will try and track down a orange vested guy to ask. I will update when I do.

That's great - it sounds good to go then! They may have been waiting until the sewer work had progressed so they could get on site. If I see any trucks hauling dirt out, I'll confirm it's being built, if you haven't.

They're building the nearby Natures Path Building right beside VCC Clark Station too! This building and that one are both the type of building they typically take on!

Nice to see activity in this dilapidated part of Vancouver with the hospital and then the office project underway.

Klazu thinks it's all near the dirty poors and therefore must be run down.

Well, it is junkie central around the SkyTrain and railway stations, and Thornton Park has even had tents in it from time to time. Someone was also stabbed just few weeks ago at the Terminal Avenue Tim Hortons, so yeah, pretty dilapidated especially north of the SkyTrain station (not Olympic Village direction).

Then again, most of Downtown is in progress of becoming dilapidated, so this area is not that different in that context.
