I can live with the missing crown, but why did they change the central and top layers from horizontal stripes to vertical? Now it's got this weird ≡≡lll thing going on.

Wow. There should be an Austin specific term for the morphing of projects that go from stellar to forgettable. I feared this would happen....and it did! I am seriously really pissed. WTF possessed them to do this? Is it really cost cutting to buzz off the crown? Can't wait for the cluster of rectangles.

5 MIN Update:

Jesus. The balconies on both the south & north sides look so goddamn bad. The huge gap on the south side is absolutely atrocious and just plain odd. There is no pattern and the disjointed aesthetic also doesn't make sense. It just looks like a mistake.

I do like the balconies, the shape is interesting and the size is usable.

the overall design though is blah.

They've also shrunk the height from 775 ft to 753 ft with the loss of the crown, and the glass has changed from an interesting teal/green color to... More blue!

You just gotta look at the bright side. This change is still a million times better than what happened to 321 W Sixth Street.

Oh thank God they boxed off the top. I was beginning to worry it would be distinguishable from distance on the skyline. Now it can fade into rectangular obscurity with the modern and darn near every other residential highrise proposed or under construction.
Heaven forbid a taper, spire, setback, curve, arch or unique design enter the fray. Brick, stone or natural elements? Not a chance when we could just have a striped glass box. Throw in some sectional elements to make it look shorter and boom finished product. Get the golden shovels!!

Coincidentally, it resembles the wood fence.

So long as they don’t make this thing any shorter, it will at least still add some height variability to the skyline. We don’t currently have any towers in the 700 to 800 foot range.

I agree... I immediately thought it looked similar to another building. Not necessarily a good comparison though.

I'm not so sure it is blue. The color might just be the reflection of the blue sky in a neutral, more clear glass. The close up rendering does not read blue to me. I am hoping it is different.

Now the loss of the crown, as mentioned before, is a real loss. Just WHY? Good base, Nice tower portion, No crown, again. = Another Missed Opportunity = Just Another Skyscraper.

And Yes; At least it still has a decent height for our skyline! It will look good near 98 Red River I think, with good scaling down to the rest of the Downtown Skyline.

I think if we hadn't seen the original rendering, I think the tune would be much different on this one. Still a pretty cool look and it is 750 feet!

Bring back the green though!

Can you source that? I thought the site plan was approved and released at 775'. I'd like to see the new elevations.

753 ft was a typo on my part, it should be 755 ft. I’m just going off the text on the flyer.

Ah. Maybe that is to the roof and then there is another 20' of parapet.

Not sure, but the floor count also went from 65 to 63.
