I went by the site yesterday:

Hmmm, that image just seems too inhumanely bleak...it needs a bit of strategically placed green:

Yep, streetside shade trees and sidewalk canopies should be a downtown design ordinance.

This is getting there, but it perhaps has too much tower-in-the-garden-park going on.

Speaking of:

As Legacy Park is catty-corner to the new building, we'll always get a nice, unobstructed, ground-level view!

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases...r-in-downtown-san-antonio-301528573.html

The article states, "300 Main will be the third tallest building in the downtown district of the Alamo City" Is this true? I thought it fell short of the Tower Life Building, putting it 4th or 5th on the list.

Great Wall: 427
Weston: 420 (444 to table thingie)
Tower Life: 404
Rivercenter: 400 (to the roof... maybe)
300 Main: 387'-8"
BofA: 387
Frost: 386

FYI, the Rivercenter is grossly mislabeled on the SSP diagrams page. It's clearly nowhere near 546 feet to the spires. I'm pretty sure that's where the 441 height is.

Is 387 the confirmed height for this one?

Either way this is gonna make a nice dent on the skyline and will make it look even more dense, especially from that angle.

From this view, I think it'll cover half the dome! Need to find a new angle to cover! This one is iconic, though!

You're right, as well as all of the Milam Building. It will still be a great angle; it will help fill in the gap of the 400' plateau. Besides...

San Antonio developer Weston Urban hosted a groundbreaking event today for a multifamily hi-rise project.

300 Main will be a 32-story residence located on the corner of North Main Avenue and East Travis Street. It will feature 354 Class AA units for rent averaging 924 square feet, a six-level parking garage with approximately 457 spaces, and a common area on the 25th floor called the Sky Lounge where residents and their guests will be offered “unobstructed views of San Antonio,” according to a press release. On the ground floor, 300 Main will offer 6,275 square feet of retail space.

Rogers-O’Brien Construction is the general contractor on the project. Financing was provided by Bridge Investment Group and Bank OZK. Construction is expected to be complete by spring of 2024.

In addition to the groundbreaking, Weston Urban announced two new projects at the event. The Rand building, located on 110 E. Houston St., will see the construction of two new restaurants on its ground level.

One of the establishments, called the Double Standard, is a 2,859-square-foot tavern-style restaurant and bar by the Empty Stomach Group (responsible for establishments like Barbaro and Hot Death), set to open in May 2022. The kitchen is headed by Chef John Philpot of the Empty Stomach Group, and the bar will be led by Myles Worrell, of The Esquire.

The other project is a 4,500-square-foot Chick-fil-A restaurant with a drive-thru, expected to be finished by early 2023.

Not the most attractive building in San Antonio by a long shot. But it does look a little taller than Frost. Maybe it will be 400 feet.

Also, was this photo taken by anyone here?

And a comparison to Kevin's massing rendering from 16 months ago.

It definitely looks a little better from this angle. I'll hold off judgement on the color til' it's done. Honestly, I'm just happy SA is getting something reasonably tall.

It does look like 400'. From the rendering it's taller than Frost, and looks exactly like Kevin's massing.

With 32-story high-rise, Weston Urban is making a big bet on demand for downtown San Antonio housing

https://www.expressnews.com/sa-inc/article/Weston-Urban-downtown-apartments-17125958.php

Amid a sea of hotels, office buildings, tourist traps and parking lots, Weston Urban is making a big bet on demand for downtown living.

The San Antonio firm has begun construction of a 32-story high-rise at North Main Avenue and East Travis Street. The new tower will include about 354 apartments to be rented at market rates.

The project, dubbed 300 Main, will include about 6,275 square feet of space for retail and a parking garage. It’s expected to cost upwards of $107 million and be completed in spring 2024.

“In two years’ time, a hot, soulless asphalt parking lot — and I bet there’s not a person here that can remember when it was anything else — will transform by the work of a lot of great San Antonians into 32 stories of beauty and progress and, really, homes,” Weston Urban co-founder and CEO Randy Smith said at a groundbreaking ceremony.

...

Several blocks southwest, Weston Urban plans to turn a block bounded by San Pedro Creek and Commerce, Dolorosa and Laredo streets into a mix of apartments, offices and commercial space.

The firm plans to rehabilitate the Arana and Continental Hotel buildings and construct a 15-story building with about 255 units between those two buildings. The housing is aimed at students, faculty and staff at the University of Texas at San Antonio, which is building its School of Data Science and National Security Collaboration Center nearby.

Crane coming soon

I saw the base of a white crane being trucked in to the site this morning. I'll try and get some pics at lunch time. Exciting times!

Preaching to the choir on that one. It feels somewhat satisfying that 300 Main will fill in the gap between the Frost Tower and Weston Centre. At least from that angle. I like it.

Stopped by the site today and had the privilege of watching the very first massive rebar cylinder cage lowered into the extreme northwest caisson. The rebar cylinders seem to be about 7-8 stories tall.

Sorry, for the enormous pics... wasn't sure how to minimize the size.

Thanks for the pics everybody! The renderings look great and I'm excited to see this one go up.

I hope this tower inches developers towards higher apartment/condo buildings to the usual 4-5 floor mid rise. It'd be awesome if a higher tower went up on the parking lot across the street!

I hope so too. Not only for the quality of the skyline, but also for the quality of the buildings since 5-over-1s don't have to meet the stricter standards of taller buildings.

Thanks for the gigantic photos, starvinggryphon.
