Isn't this one of those ultra cheap modular builds? The one by the Slush Puppie Centre (shudder) went up in like a week. I'm not sure if this was built the same way, but probably.

I think there was a story in Le Droit gushing about how quick it was built.

When I read it in Harls' post I almost gagged. But now I'm over it already. I guess it makes sense for a city like Gatineau. At first I thought that was the new name for the Corell Centre...or is it the Scotia centre? The Sens arena in Kanata.

The Centre Slush Puppie name is the type of thing that is so bad, that it's good.

The problem with this isn't so much the Rapibus access which isn't in this view, and isn't too bad from the Casino to the station itself.

It's more the horrid site-specific design of the hotel.

For example, just below the three large evergreen trees is a crosswalk that leads directly across the road to the Casino. There should be a walkway or stairs there. (Can't remember how steep the slope is.)

There should also be pedestrian markings at the very least between the hotel entrance and that walkway too.

Of course, nature always finds a way so wanna bet that if they don't put a walkway where I am suggesting, it won't take much time for a path to get worn into the grass and ground in the exact routing where it should be.

The six new towers in this shot are really adding some density to the Southeastern portion of Ottawa's downtown. It's too bad they are all the same height and the tabletop is just getting bigger.

Ottawa packs a lot of density, but it is perhaps the boxiest skyline in the country (if not the continent). box, box, box, box, box.

Not quite as impressive as Harley's shots, but here's Hull from Radio-Canada's Twitter.

This is the view from the opposite side. Another great shot by Harley.

It's such a reflection of modern Canada and modern building ethos.

There's just no middle. One gets towers or lives in a single-family home.

The walk-ups? The densely packed, teeming with people, but not towering neighbourhoods? A relic of history, an aberration against the modernity of zoning.

You get suburbia on the ground or suburbia in the sky. One can live in Vaughan, but it will be a SFH, or a 30-story tower at Highway 7 and the 400 next to a power centre. It's almost ghastly.

Anyway, cool to see how Ottawa is changing, I guess.

It feels like all my life Winnipeg's skyline has been the P&M cluster plus Saskatoon/London/Syracuse. A bunch of new buildings since, including a new tallest, and that hasn't changed.

There is actually more of it (and more construction) out of the shot to the east in the vicinity of Rue Laurier which is along the Ottawa River east of the Alexandra Bridge.
