Why won't Burnaby just build a proper storm waterway here is mystery to me.
Why would they? How do you think it has become one of the richest Municipalities in N. America.
All that happens few times a year is Still Creek gets flooded for a short period of time.
The too tight spacing is akin to City of Lougheed.
Claiming a risk of parkade flooding as if it were an accepted and likely scenario is just naive and dumb. Sure, if there is a major engineering mistake. Otherwise, we have a few technological solutions to water ingress in conditions like these. There are a number of local projects built/being built that solve the same condition. (City Gate and a dozen other projects on False Creek, several riverside projects in New West and Vancouver . . . ) Relatively speaking,there is nothing special about this one.
Spoken like a local engineer that doesn't visit the projects few years on from occupancy once they are the headache of strata boards.
Burnaby likes to hoard their money, and have developers pay for everything. Which works some of the time, but citizens suffer until that happens.
Not fair, City of Burnaby also re invest in many infra structures. They are redeveloping Confederation community center and Cameron community center. They also keep the property tax down. They are the only city where you can dispose lots of un wanted furniture and mattresses for free if you place them by the road side and phone ahead for them to pick it up. They spend a lot of money in re finishing and improving roads .

Not to mention they are the first municipality to transition from all sodium to LED street lamps: ie. they are much greener than green-washed Vancouver.
Wow, the 51-floor Tower Two is rising quickly! It it starting to be a noticeable part of the skyline. Also the huge pit is filling up fast. Amazing progress.

They also started digging south side by Dawson St and Gilmore Ave, and another building on Dawson St is demolished too.
Building a land connection to Vancouver Island little by little would be great...
But honestly, I cannot think of any shoreline dumping place, so not sure where all the dirt is going. I see a lot of fully loaded dump trucks on Highway 1 every morning heading east, but not sure of their destination.
