add London to that list too. we are seeing an unprecedented number of buildings going up, and new proposals like this (with the shorter being more than 40 stories):

It's a massive block with lots of interior space. Narrow gaps between the podiums is interesting too. Just a few too many steps though.
it's actually a pretty hilly site, the NW corner (closest to Skytrain) goes down quite steeply to the SE corner of the site. There is a big hill that is not really noticeable behind where the Amazing Brentwood is. Beta ave is a very steep street. Not fun to walk or bike on lol.

^^Indeed

There's really nothing good to say about that Kitchener proposal beyond that it adds more people to the neighbourhood. The massing is oppressive. I assume the podium is a large above grade parking garage. The architecture is two trends I can't wait to end. Black and white colour blocking and floor plans flipped 180 degrees.

Kitchener will never be Toronto .Why would anyone want some of the worst aspect of development in that big city in Kitchener

This will be Hamilton's newest tallest building at 45 stories.

This week, there was a design review meeting in which Bruce Kuwabara presented three-tower options for the City to consider choosing from.

As SteelTown noted, all of the designs have a circular-ish shape to help allow for the wind to flow freely around the tower, rather than get pushed down to grade which would make the ground experience less comfortable, and the podium further reduces wind effects at grade.

Starting off with some of the general slides and views:

Note the inset balconies shown in this next image. This is a change from the original plan which saw more of a wraparound-style balcony configuration (more on this later.)

Some early renderings focused on the podium and streetscape:

Now, moving on to balconies and preliminary floor plans.

Mr. Kuwabara noted that the balconies are now planned to be inset based on the wind studies that were completed by RWDI, and that they'll be more useful and less windswept compared to wraparound balconies as shown in the original concept plan.

It was further mentioned that floorplate size is limited to 650 square metres for the uppermost portion of the tower (floors 31 through 45) and 850 square metres for the lower tower floors. This is noteworthy because these sizes are significantly slimmer than the usual Hamilton tower (often 900 to 1100 square metres) and more closely resemble the Toronto maximum floor plate size of 750 square metres. This will be a tower with nice proportions, in other words.

Here is an updated overall rendering of the project with the tower included:

Now, let's move on to the three different tower design options. The difference between the three is in shape, as noted in previous posts. Mr. Kuwabara stated that the exterior treatment for the tower is still a work in progress, and subject to further design evolution. I imagine this element of the design will be firmed up by the second DRP meeting on this project in April.

Option 1 - Cylinder

*Note: I was not able to catch the rendering entitled "view from the north" for this option. I have not included the aerial view for this option either, because it is the same as shown in slide #25, seen further up in this post.

Option 2 - Waves

Option 3 - Lily

As said, I know I missed some, so keep an eye for the slides to be posted to the City's website in the days to come. As well, my apologies if this is too many images; I usually try to keep my posts to no more than 15 or 20, but I figure that these are of public interest enough to justify breaking that.

High end KPMB. Cylinder for me. The Lily reminds me of any number of towers in Toronto. I do like Waves too.

As a second-tier city, London is plagued with second-rate (and third-rate) highrises. The courthouse being the most egregiously ugly of them.

Nice catch for Hamilton. Head and shoulders above most tall buildings in that city (in terms of attractiveness, other than the peerless Pigott building)

London certainly has it faire share of ugly concrete bunkers, I really like the London Courthouse. To me it was one of the few building from the 70s that actually came out right.

Lol, I'm the opposite, give me the more random Lilly shape it will have more play on light throughout the year. The waves are fine, the Cylinder looks like City Place junk to me. And if it's white it will look like a giant cigarette. If they choose that I hope they light up the crown with glowing amber lights.

Cool Hamilton tower! Looks a bit like it's on an island in that spot.

900 King St W, just approved for midtown Kitchener
It may also get a suite or two for use by the hospital across the street which is great.

For a landmark building, yeah, simpler is better. The blob is a filler building.

I just find the defined forms of cylinder and wave a more difficult achievement than a undefined form such as Lily. Originality is key For Lily. A crossed shape Lily would be something different for this era. The current form with pushed out corners or an indented middle (forget the name of the shape) has been done many times before.

We see Cityplace differently. Concord hire good firms that designed quality towers for the first 2/3rd of the site. Quality of the exterior finishes are debatable. It's on par with other developments of the era however, it end up a disappointment given the higher architectural design standard. The master plan is very formulaic and the layout is softer than the concrete jungle to the north. It stands out as an outlier which attracts attention.
