New proposal for Victoria, on top of the Art Deco BC Power Commission building, which is right behind the Empress hotel amongst other hotels and condos. Has the advantage of being at the top of a hill, so it will be the highest building in the area. Reliance Properties out of Vancouver is the developer - they went through a nearly ten year battle with countless iterations at another heritage site, but I expect this to hopefully improve a bit, but pass much more quickly due to the rental/housing crisis.

Existing 4 storeys plus 18, for 22 in total; new 77 room hotel plus 102 residential units, only 2 onsite vehicle parking spots.

Added bonus, some near future skyline renders:

Wow!!! That looks great. Thanks for sharing this Zoomer. I really like it. I have always liked that old building but thought it was such a great location for a taller building. I really like the concept. I'm also really happy they are keeping the exciting building and architecture. I'll have to email council and share my support for it.

I'm of the opinion leave the Deco building alone. Could be much worse and restores the facades. The block across the street with the hotel and two condo towers turned their backs on this building long ago as well.

Quite a nice infill near the University of Ottawa.

Three of the units are designed to conform with Ontario Building Code barrier-free standards. The building will have an elevator, and an at-grade entrance for universal access. There will be 20 bicycle parking spaces, and no vehicular parking spaces provided. A basement level is proposed to contain the garbage and recycling room.

Interior and exterior amenity space within the rear-yard and basement will occupy 177m2. The front yard and property line street trees will be conserved and incorporated into the overall landscaping concept.

The subject property has a frontage of 20 meters along Wilbrod Street and an area of approximately 650 square meters. The land is currently occupied by two vacant low-rise residential buildings, constructed in 1876. The buildings are classified as Category 3 buildings in the Sandy Hill West Heritage Conservation District. The applicant advises that condition of the two properties is beyond the threshold of preservation as they have been vacant since 2003 and have since deteriorated.

Another new, tall proposal for Kitchener, this time is 10 Duke Street West.

40 Floors
Mixed use
Incorporating the historic office building (unsure if it's facade only at this point)

Lots of tall stuff coming in the next few years:

30 Francis Street South - 44 floors, just approved:

Victoria and Park - 38, 36, 25 floors, likely approved in the next two months:

Q Condos - poor choice of name or star trek homage. 34 floors, <50 meters from 10 Duke St, sales starting in spring:

Station Park - tallest is 44 floors with the first bunch being taller office space floors, the two towers on the right will be done this year:

And those are just the tallest downtown towers. Lots of 15-25 storey action downtown and along the LRT route.

1 York Gate Boulevard has a 22s proposal:

Not much to write home about, but the Avenue Study/Block Context Plan is interesting:

There will be an LRT running along Finch through Jane in a year or so.

Another big proposal for Brentwood.

Quote:
The proposal calls for about 3,400 homes, including about 2,000 market rental homes, 450 below-market rental homes with rents set at 20% below Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation median rental rates, and 900 condominium homes, plus 200,000 sq ft of office and retail space.

The UK-based international developer acquired the site in early 2020. It says this Brentwood project will be the firm’s largest mixed-use development in North America, and it also includes the tallest 100% rental housing tower in Western Canada at over 60 storeys.

what would be the tallest rental tower proposed or otherwise in Canada?

It's a massive block with lots of interior space. Narrow gaps between the podiums is interesting too. Just a few too many steps though.

Nice stuff in Kitchener!

Seems that Kitchener and Kelowna may experience the largest relative transformations of the 2020s.

Proposal in Ottawa's west end suburb and high-tech hub, Kanata.

The project will contain 253 rental dwelling units, interior and exterior amenity space on the ground floor, an indoor extension to the existing Ballroom on the second floor, a common terrace on the fifth floor, a restaurant with a rooftop terrace accessible to everyone and a swimming pool on the rooftop terrace.

The project offers suite types of various sizes and a broad price range as well as many amenities offered on-site. The ‘’L’’ shape of the building maximises views towards the golf course and the ponds. Future residents will benefit from a large landscaped garden. The spacious double height lobby and foyer at the entrance will welcome visitors to the complex. All residential parking will be located on two levels of underground parking and on the enclosed first floor of the existing parking structure. The access will be from the driveway going down to P1 level directly from Terry Fox Drive. The two buildings will be interconnected on level P1. All the visitors and restaurant guests parking will be provided on the second floor of the existing parking structure. The dedicated pedestrian access is from the drop-off on the ground floor and continues onto a new entrance in the open-air parking. Based on the parking regulations, 397 vehicle parking spaces will be provided. This takes into account 304 spaces for residents, 51 spaces for visitors and 42 for the restaurant guests.

Indeed. Both are very exciting for different reasons. Kelowna to be that bigger city in a great scenic setting, and Kitchener to be that larger piece of the puzzle in Southern Ontario. Excited to see how much both can grow in the coming years,
