I think everyone can agree that the mask mandates being lifted are great and shows we're heading in the right direction and hopefully, finally coming out of this pandemic.

Basically every major city is dropping the mandate not or within the next 2 weeks. I'm happy about it!

I'm also glad to see the mask mandate dropped! I haven't had an issue with wearing them throughout the pandemic, but I also didn't love it--especially as someone who wears glasses. Hopefully, this spring and summer will provide the strongest level of normality since late 2019/early 2020!

who would you expect to bury the lines? especially considering those lines are feeding other properties in the neighborhood. Anyone who thinks underground lines are a panacea should look at what happened in Queen Village with the water main break that happened 9 months ago. Everything comes with tradeoffs- the repair isnt complete due to waiting on PECO repairs of UG power feeds.

A lot of the lines are defunct old telephone lines that are “maintained” by Comcast or Pacific Bell. If you ask them to be removed, they’ll tell you the other is responsible for it. I believe a fair amount of electric is already underground.

It’s not impossible to take them down. Other cities have done it but I suppose we’re subject to the old “that’s how it’s always been done in Philly” mentality lol.

^^ Does the plan involve new/more street trees? With climate change ramping up heat, rain, and the like trees would certainly help to cool the area and maintain runoff

That was my thought looking at the renders, a whole lot of asphalt and concrete, but didn't appear to be vegetation along the periphery.

New lamppost streetlights would be nice too.

no its subject to "reality" challenges. It amazes me that people think burying power lines in an urban environment is easy and its simply a matter of lazy, stupid people just dont want to go through the effort to bury them. Every aspect of dealing with utilities is complicated and more expensive to deal with when they are buried. No doubt it looks better, but there is a reason its usually only done with new construction on virgin land. And a huge downside in an old city is close proximity to 100+ year old water mains that rupture.
