I heard the top was based on Conan O'Brien's hair.

But then redesigned to look more like Gumby.

The Design Commission couldn't reach an agreement on compliance for the FAR increase. So this project is moving forward administratively without a DC recommendation. That's as good as a yes.

Is this now called Conrad? https://conradresidencesaustin.com/

The balcony design in this picture appears to align with the top section of the full building rendering that was recently released. The address is 311 E. 2nd Street if so.

Yes the hotel component is a Conrad so the building is being named accordingly.

That address is not currently used, but it is in the range currently used for the site. Nice find!

Hotel partner, new look revealed for Second St. skyscraper
Intracorp gunning for tallest residential/hotel combo in city

https://www.bizjournals.com/austin/n...Pos=0#cxrecs_s

Michelle Pitcher – Staff Writer, Austin Business Journal

"...Intracorp Texas, a division of Vancouver-based Intracorp Homes, is vying to build the tallest residential tower and hotel in the city, and the developer on March 8 revealed new renderings and project details.

Conrad Austin and Conrad Residences Austin will loom 750 feet over East Second Street and Trinity Street, just north of the Austin Marriott Downtown and west of the Austin Convention Center. Conrad Hotels & Resorts is a luxury brand of Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. (NYSE: HLT), the hotel partner for the project. There are Conrad properties under development in other major markets, including Nashville and Los Angeles."

The Conrad brand will be a great addition to Austin's ever-growing repertoire of hotel options. It used to be Hilton's top brand until their acquisition of Waldorf-Astoria. It has been considered a very nice brand, but, never 5-star. If one can get a room at a Conrad in a major downtown location in the U.S. for less the $200 per night (less than $400 per night in D.C.)...it's not 5-star.

Also, the 5-star designation is not specifically tied to a brand, but, to an individual hotel. Conrad is considered one of the higher-end brands in the world. Again, this is awesome for Austin. I'm eager to see if the Ritz gets built & who his the hotel partner with the super tall.

Is Capella still involved with the hotel near Waterloo Park?

Capella is not, so far as I know. I DO know it's supposed to be another Hilton brand, Tapestry.

https://www.hilton.com/en/tapestry/

Essentially it's a way for independent operators/developers to do whatever the hell they want and still be affiliated with a major brand (and get access to its loyalty program). From what I've heard the Waterloo's bones are still essentially the abandoned Trump concept, but retooled to be more acceptable to mainstream audiences.

I've ALSO heard that 98 Red River is where the Ritz is finally landing. NOT part of the Travis #2.

This feels like a solid level up in luxury and price relative to anything else we have today or even in the pipeline, save maybe 98 RR?

That would make sense. I would wager if that is the case, 98 would be the tallest Ritz-Carlton hotel & residences in the world, correct?
