I see driving by there this morning that the interior design companies were inside, including such companies as Interior Visions. Hopefully, this means an opening fairly soon.

Barcade in Moncton

There appears to be a Barcade opening at 234 St. Georges Blvd.
"Xeroz Arcade/Bar"
Apologies, but I cannot find a good link, but seeing some Facebook events to the opening, such as: https://www.facebook.com/events/346874293967701/?ref=newsfeed

I saw that listing on Facebook one day but couldn’t figure out if they had opened or not. I really like the concept, there is one in Saint John that I went to before.

Does anyone remember if Ashford gave specific date or month for when they would announce their big plans for downtown? Or did they give. A general time frame like winter 2022 or spring?

No, they did not.

The expectation is that something will be brought before PAC sometime this year.

I'm hoping before the summertime.

The Ashford Living building on the NW corner of Highfield & Gordon has secured a main floor commercial tenant.

CBCL (consulting engineers) will be moving across the street from their current location in the old YMCA building.

I believe Ashford also owns the old YMCA building. Maybe CBCL needed a larger space.

The former ideal muffler building on Main Street has been torn down. This property was recently sold and the city also recently had a public tender for the sliver of the ROW between the property and Vaughan Harvey. I believe something major might be going on, but that’s just speculation.

Someone bought the muffler shop in June for $415,000, then someone, presumably the same person, bought the 4-unit and two vacant lots to its north on Atlantic for $500,000 this January.

Hmmmm - the mystery deepens.

Main & Vaughan Harvey is the busiest intersection in downtown Moncton, with Vaughan Harvey being the main arterial leading to northwest Moncton (to the north), and Riverview to the south. There are modern developments all all three other corners. This last corner has tremendous visiblility, and the way that West Main Street veers toward the south right after the intersection means that anything built here will be extremely visible to any westbound traffic on Main Street. There is the potential for a major impact on the city skyline.

If this is all an indication of a consolidation of properties for a large development, I sincerely hope that whatever is built here have significant height - at least 12 storeys.

I just double checked on the SNB online assessment site and, between the city owned sliver of land along Vaughan Harvey (which now has an RFP out by the city), the recently demolished muffler shop, and the three nearby adjacent (recently sold) properties on the east side of Atlantic Avenue, it would appear that all this land is being assembled for redevelopment:

This is a significant amount of land, certainly enough for a decent sized tower. There are some rumours already that an apartment complex is planned for this corner. Given the apparent size of this possible development, and the prominent location, I dearly hope that something more than a low rise generic project is planned..........

The good thing is that the city has control, being the owner of the corner lot. I can't imagine they'd allow a mediocre development on such a prominent piece of property. It would be interesting to know who it was that purchased the land. No doubt there is a project being worked on behind the scenes.

You're right. The city does have control. This is a very good point.

So much happens behind the scenes. But if the muffler shop sale for $415K in June and the adjacent 3 lots to the north for $500K last month are the same buyer, you know something is being worked on. I think we're going to see a significant development on this corner.

This is a significant amount of land, certainly enough for one (possibly two) towers, depending on how the development is configured. I lived one street over on Enterprise ST. until I was 10 years old. In the 70'S Atlantic was Cornhill St and ran all the way up past St. George as did Enterprise which ended at the old Beaver curling club. At that time Vaughn Harvey was there, with stop signs on the two north/south neighbourhood Streets. At the time, V. Harvey Blvd only ran from St. George to Main and you could also get on Main St from Atlantic. I wonder if they will open Atlantic up at Main or have another plan for the increased traffic in the area.
This may create headaches, however, if this place is AS major as it sounds they may need better access into the property than is there now.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes. Why else would the city have suddenly requested an RFP on their bit of land along Vaughan Harvey a month ago? This is a mere formality before land sale. The city and the developer are obviously in deep communication regarding the plans for this entire set of properties. There is nothing wrong with this BTW. This is just normal SOP for large scale projects.

In many ways this reminds me of the rapid approval process for Lafford and 20 Record Street. Everything was agreed to beforehand, with the construction crane erected within only about six weeks of PAC approval. Will the same thing happen here? The city obviously already knows what is going on..........

It will be intriguing looking at the PAC documents over the next few months. I expect some very interesting projects will be coming up for approval.........

Not quite right- it was 25-27 Atlantic and the two vacant lots south of it that sold. 29-31 and 33-35 have NOT sold in recent years.
