The City has had various plans in place over the years.

Latest plans from early 2000's had Waterfront drive extending along the river to the current underpass Higgins location.

They had BRT options going along the rail line, down Higgins, or down along the river. Extending a BRT bridge and possible road bridge off the end of Point to Dougals to Nairn.

The various plans to including bulldozing basically the entirety of south point douglas.

They have all sorts of plans but nothing ever comes of it because no money. Just like everywhere else in Winnpeg.

At some point Waterfront will may extended, but there are buildings in the way. Inlcuding the 515 Waterfront location. And if that's getting redeveloped, I don't see anything substantial happening with that are for a long time.

Also, I don't really see that road re-alignment of Higgins at Disraeli as a big deal. Looks like the City still owns the land too.

Sounds right from what I can remember. Looking at Google maps the name was gone off the building by Sept 2007

I have been trying to find old plans for Point Douglas and I ran across this document from the Metis Economic Development Org.

Nothing too crazy, but there were/are plans for a pedestrian underpass at Maple street, next to the old CP station. Apparently, there is one there that was sealed off some time ago.

Had no clue that was there.

Half the old tunels missing as cp demoleshed some of that to straighten the track can be done but would cost some money that car won't pay for

Well it is kinda new haha they've made some changes since the last round of variances. Mostly looks like they'll get some changes to parking.

I had always wondered why there were traffic signals at Maple and Higgins, and sort of thought there had been some sort of long gone rail underpass to justify them many years ago.

Years ago I owned a house in Point Douglas. Walked through that underpass numerous times. I remember when they blocked it off. There were no safety issues then or maybe they were just starting. I'd never walk under there now, especially at night.

It's pretty sleepy now, but it probably would have been a pretty busy downtown intersection at one point up until, I'm guessing here, maybe the 60s or 70s? The CP station/Royal Alexandra Hotel and the traffic coming and going from there, the big Immigration Hall on Maple, the fire station.

It's still open! It connects the city hall cluster to the concert hall and museum/parkade. The connection to the civic center has been blocked off for obvious reasons, but perhaps it could reopen in the future?

Makes sense. In days gone by, we used that tunnel to go to symphony concerts from the parkade. When we landed under the concert hall we were greeted by that model of the development concept. I always dreamed of the day that would be built. Oh well.

At one point the City's goal was to connect the skywalk system to the City Hall/Centennial Centre concourse... it used to show up on maps as a dotted line along Main Street from City Hall to Lombard Place which isn't really that far away. I guess they must have given up on it because you never see that anymore.
