Greater Transparency Urged To Overcome Kitsilano’s Shameful Housing Divisions

2086-2098 W 7th Ave and 2091 W 8th Ave
As yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of our first City Duo post, I think Hannah and I have proven we’re among the most dedicated individuals when it comes to following Vancouver’s urban growth. Yet neither of us would ever force our children to attend an Urban Design Panel meeting, so maybe the residents around the future Arbutus SkyTrain Station are slightly more passionate. Fortunately, these kids were extremely well-behaved, which is more than can be said for some adults.

Certainly it wasn’t these youngsters who flooded Twitter with a combination of false information about this event, as well as attacks on these volunteers. That’s particularly awful as, like usual, all they did was use their expertise and experiences to judge whether this proposal complies with city policy, and fits within the larger community. Then again, it’s not like this reaction was unexpected, given past interactions between supporters and opponents, as well as the ongoing lawsuits against the Broadway SkyTrain.

When "Ulinder Rennie" were the marketers for the project, if memory serves correctly.

They look like knee braces, which are intended to support something, but what would they put there besides a sidewalk? I guess I'm just rephrasing the question.

I hear they are building some new Hobo hotel units there below the sidewalk with a special ramp access so they can wheel their stolen Safeway buggies from the alley down to their under sidewalk studio suites.

Its a good system with Council Carr running point on this new ground breaking (no pun intended) social housing project. I wish her godspeed. If only we could bury all the Hobos throughout the city. A man can dream right?

The work is supposed to be relocation of a sewer piep - so could just be shoring for the pipe excavation.
Unfortunately, if there's a pipe there, that forecloses the possibility of ever connecting the Canada Line mezzanine to the former Lululemon Lab space at Crossroads which was to be a future station access point.

Better pic - they look like supports for a temporary sidewalk over the pipe excavation pit.
But they do not rise at an angle with the slope.

Probably related to this work for the subway which started on February 16

Quote:
The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) is in your neighbourhood relocating the sanitary and combined sewer
lines running beneath Cambie Street near the new Broadway-City Hall station. The installation of bypass pipes on the
west side of the intersection of Cambie Street at W. 10th Avenue will be conducted over approximately one week at
night to minimize traffic disruptions.

This notice from September seems to suggest they will install the permanent sewer pipes with this excavation.

Once the bypass sewer pipes are installed, we will then begin excavating and installing the permanent sewer pipes on Cambie Street between W. 8th and W. 10th avenues. This stage of work will continue through the Spring.

there is no way the permanent sewer pipes involve those supports. that looks like a what i would expect for a temporary system

It's probably for a temporary sidewalk.
Sewer pipe supports wouldn't need spacing that close together.

it doesn't follow the grade though which is strange for a sidewalk. i wonder what those brackets are rated to hold.

Yeah, I was wondering if there will be risers on each bracket to form the slope?
(ie maybe having the brackets step up on an angle could introduce downhill forces causing the sidewalk to slide downhill)

Who knows what the supports are for but that doesn't mean they can't install permanent sewer pipes below them.

Just like the sidewalk supports above Vancouver City Centre Station bolted to the wall of Sears:

I didnt know that Il Mercato at 1641 Commercial Drive is for sale/redevelopment potential. The westside is a total waste of space (old mcdonalds side) and you could redevelop that end without distributing the main building as a first phase.
