East York/Danforth area has rows upon rows of identical 1920s tract housing: eg since I'm familiar with Milverton, Ontario, I recently drove the entire length of Milverton Blvd. These homes are still much nicer than anything built since the 1980s.

Early renders for a pretty plain 3 tower proposal for a super suburban site in South Kitchener. This will be very close to a phase 2 lrt station and GO/Local bus station.

Nothing too crazy but adding significant density to lower density hoods and near transit during a housing crisis is an easy win in my book.

Agreed about Cidex being terrible. Just look at what they’ve done with more ambitious designs that turned into spandrel monstrosities in Calgary. Now imagine when the initial design bar is set even lower. Surprised these aren’t also called The Hat like their other 50 projects with the same name. They can’t even be bothered to come up with original names. Worst developer since Lacaille.

Edit: OMG it is called Hat!!!!! LOL! Can't believe I missed that. The ugly rendering drew my eye away from the name.

Has Calgary ever had towers built by True North? If they did, they would truly know what a bad project looks like; however, True North's projects got successively better and their final project was on par with Cidex.

How many Hats are there? Hat is an odd name for residential development. Is it an acronym?

I find it too big in the sense that it is going to potentially eat up a lot of demand.

There is not a ton of new product in that area and it is certainly awash in 60s-80s walkups that could feed a new project as they turnover.

The towers are ugly. The designs have too much going on. The podium needs one or two more floors.

Another "Hat", really? It's definitely a fugly development, and despite removing some surface parking in this neighbourhood, it's massing and positioning makes me think it's just meant to maximize density and unit counts. I can imagine the views in many of those towers must be too close for much comfort. That being said, I'm happy they at least have retail here.

That's hilarious...i was reading this thinking....well it is called Hat....they actually name all their developments Hat? That doesn't even make sense....unless its an acronym for something.

I think the design is ok....very good density and better than a parking lot.
