I don't think they have made an announcement yet, but Puma is going to be at the outlet mall. I know someone who interviewed for the GM position.

According to the Park City Commons web site Fire and Flower Cannabis is coming soon. So that is probably one of the units being built right now.

No they are in the existing mall and already 99% ready to open. I believe a credit union is on if the tenants going in the new part.

Today I visited Hudson's Bay @ St-Vital. Just found out that they have expanded their hours to 10am - 8pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 6pm on Sundays. The Polo Park store has identical hours. The store was almost empty 1 hour into the retail day. There was no queue at the centralized cash desks on the ground floor where I only made returns from online orders. In and out in 15 minutes.

I think most malls have expanded their Monday to Friday hours from 11-7 to 10-8. Pre-Covid they open until 9pm.

A new locally-operated store called Surplus Market opened inside The Bay at Polo Park in October. Looks like a nice boutique with a mix of vintage and other stuff. They have a little cafe in there too.

There is an article in the CBC about the city contemplating restrictions on Cannabis stores, such as regulating the minimum distance from schools, playgrounds, etc. but also from other cannabis stores. I understand the logic of wanting to keep stores a distance from schools (although I don’t agree with it), why regulate the distance between shops? Who cares if 2 or 3 shops open up on the same block? The Calgary bylaw restricts new shops to 300 meters from existing stores. In Victoria, it’s 400 metres. I hope we don’t go too crazy about this here.

IIRC there are some restrictions. But ffs, people are so scared of the cannabis because?

I find a lot of this hilarious. Cannabis was illegal for forever. There were no roadside sobriety tests. None of that shit. So what were they doing before? Being negligent ? Seriously. The cop would take your weed and either stomp on it or it just disappeared with them.

^Same with the adult video store panic in the early 90s. Basically, the effect of the city bylaw was to force new adult stores to open in industrial areas only (could not be within 1000 ft of a school, park, residence, etc.). I worry they might try to do same with cannabis. Personally, I like seeing empty storefronts in my area turned into stores that people actually use. But please, get rid of the rule about the blocking up the windows. Geeze.

Earlier this month I visited The Bay at St-Vital. It looked a little depressing as the store had empty shelves, clothing racks were excessively spaced. It felt like The Bay at St-Vital was preparing to close permanently as it had not received new Spring merchandise.

On another note, Retail Insider reports that HBC will close 3 Saks OFF 5TH store in Canada this spring, Winnipeg is not on that list (yet).

That saks hasn’t received new merchandise in two years. They are starting to sell Winners type brands just to fill a few racks.
