Sorry, just being critical.. nevertheless, gorgeous Ottawa pic!!

Hopefully landscaping is part of the plan (unless they're keeping the open area as gathering space?)

Our parliament buildings are in a beautiful setting though. I don't know how that compares to too many places globally, but they're quite a sight from many angles especially from across the river.

The actual grounds don't bother me that much. (surely there are now fewer statues around lol) It's mainly the street entrance for me. The pink granite pavers installed 25ish years ago need more than a scrubbing. The landscaping is outdated. The little gap for street trees and precast planter boxes is not modern or heritage worthy. Refreshing the plaza on one side and doing something else with the private parking lot on the other side of the new Indigenous Museum is as important as the hill to the feel of the area.

Bedrock city was the highlight of my 1973/1975 visits.
Three things:

Kelowna seriously looks like Osoyoos does now back in those days, what an insane change.

There was a Flinstone Park near Chilliwack as well that I went to with my grandparents as a child, really good memories!

Harvey Ave will forever be a stroad unless the province starts to give a shit about the area and constructs a second crossing and a proper backbone trans regional 97 highway, allowing Harvey Ave to be traffic calmed and reclaimed.

On the right side of the Central Business District will be a new tallest tower in that dense clump, slightly higher than the brown building (Place de Ville) that is currently the tallest in that area. Out of frame will be 40/38/36 story towers down the river, and across the river from Parliament there might be a 60+ story tower in Gatineau.

I have been to 35 countries and hundreds of cities in my life and the view of Ottawa from the Alexandra Bridge at sunset is as good as any view I have ever seen of a city!

People boasting about that Ottawa pic because it shows the density of the core. Like, yeah, it's dense, in the blandest way possible. Aim higher Ottawa. If you're going to do medium density, human scale density, look to Montreal and Brooklyn, not Tunney's Pasture.

Hey look at the amazing human-scale and buzz of activity in our core!

I don't think anyone is boasting here. Ottawa has the most notoriously bland skyline of any 1m+ city in Canada. For my part I am simply highlighting that it's about to get a lot spicier and it has a good framework to work with. A few tall buildings will go a long way. Take a look at how Edmonton has gone from something barely more interesting than Ottawa to having a very picturesque skyline in the last five years because of a handful of new buildings.

Edit: Hamilton is another good example of a dense but boring skyline that has the potential to be very interesting with some of the current proposals.

Edmonton had more height and never had Ottawa's table-top, but yeah, it really upped its game in recent years. That's about to happen in Ottawa, but not at all in the area pictured. It's going to be on what has until recently been a pointless O-Train line (aside from Carleton access) because Canadian cities love to have stupid height limits that do nothing useful (Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver).

Hamilton at least has a few interesting stand out buildings and no tabletop, and the drama of the escarpment, lake, and industry. If not for Parliament Hill and the Chateau, Kelowna would have a better skyline than Ottawa at this point in history. That's pretty pathetic for a city obviously trying to go the DC route and half-assing it in typical Canadian fashion.

I'm not sure if you are being melodramatic, or facetious or you just haven't been to Ottawa. Ottawa's legacy skyline (Google is about 5 years behind) vs. Kelowna's legacy skyline don't even compare. If you compare current and future developments the disparity is even more dramatic. The screencap here of Ottawa doesn't even include new TOD in Little Italy and the countless highrises dotting the inner greenbelt like Westboro, Tunney's Pasture, Lees Avenue and Riverside. Also, Ottawa doesn't have hard height limits outside of specific narrow viewplanes protected by the NCC and is in no way comparable to DC.

Man, Kelowna gets no breaks, it suddenly went from being thought of as a nothing of interest town to being disparaged for not being as urban as Spokane (an urban area nearly three times in size) and now Ottawa! (an urban area five times it’s size!!!)
