Downtown Update

Wanted to highlight this post in the City of Hamilton Thread.

This church is really coming along and the dormer's are a super nice additoin. I've taken a few photos as well since it's close to where I live, but think this is a neat adaption to not loosing old churches touches on the city's landscape.

I wasn't sure where the thread went about the area around the McMaster Innovation Park and that area that may or may not be still owned by Forge and Foster, but when we went to Alexanians we noticed a new cider house being completed on Frid.

That and on Dundurn there's a new brewery as well. That area is going to have two new alcoholic places to visit!

Yeah the cider house has been complete for quite a while now. That's an underrated part of the city. In a way it reminds me of the industrial part of Liberty Village. I can imagine it eventually attracting more commercial activity.

According to their Instagram they haven't opened yet, but they have been brewing for a while at this location. The actual taproom hasn't opened yet though.

I can see that too. Especially once there's more at MIP and the Frid connection is built.

Dundurn between Aberdeen and Chatham seems to be slowly evolving into another decent commercial street. There are gaps and lots that can be better used, but it has potential.

So is 210 Dundurn part of the brewery? They were working on it last year but in the fall parts of the remaining walls of the old building collapsed (some of that onto the street).

They're still working away, slowly. Ambitious City Brewing. Seems the city is giving them a lot of issues. The reason it collapsed is because the city took forever on permitting.

I live near here so I walk past it quite a bit. Construction has increased significantly lately. I believe they were pouring concrete last week.

If it's the southwest corner that's a new church getting built I believe.

December 2021 permit summary is out.

2021 finished up with a whopping $2.128 billion in permits issued - over $600 million higher than the previous record set in 2019.

$91 million in permits were issued in December, including these major ones:

$3 million - 87 Carlisle Road - 15,700sm - "Farm building". This appears to be a fairly large greenhouse expansion. at 170,000sf, it's pretty large.

$6 million - 14 Augusta St - New Apartments - This is for the first of Core Urban's new buildings on Augusta by the looks of it.

$1.5 million - 406 Pritchard Road - 772sm new construction warehouse

$22 million - 90 Carling St - new apartment foundation - huge permit issue for the new Effort Trust building on King St in Westdale that's been in excavation for a while now.

$1.1 million - 237 Barton St E - Hospital Alteration - no details provided

$4.59 million - 55 Bay St N - Service building - this is the federal government building across from Copps Coliseum. No idea what this is for, but it's a pretty large permit value.

The city will be shooting for $3 billion in the near future. Not just including the LRT project, though certainly condos and multi-unit residential and commercial tied to it, and more industrial development around the airport and whatever will happen on the lands Stelco is repurposing.

This is sloppy reporting by someone who obviously has never been here. Virtually everything in Hamilton is 20 minutes from the core...
from anywhere in Waterdown, Ancaster, the entire old city, all the way to the Grimsby border. The only place that it doesn't include is the expansion of Binbrook.

Even at 10 minutes you get Westdale to Red Hill Parkway from the Bay to possibly Mohawk.

The key here is that our city has grown by quite a lot and there is huge growth in our core. I'd love to see the ward breakdown.
