It just didn't bubble up high enough in the selection process.
It's getting not one but two metrorapid routes (of the 3/4 funded new routes), so it's not like it's not getting investments.
I think there's a few factors working against it.
1. It's actually close enough to downtown that light rail has fewer benefits (as far as faster trips, etc.) over and above BRT type service.
2. If you run rail to Mueller, then where. There's not much beyond it as far as job centers go (at least not yet), or high density residential (mostly single family).
Maybe long term run to Mueller and then cut back over to Cameron and run up it?
According to the PC funding, we'll get the Gold line before anything else. Personally I'd then advocate for the spur of the orange/extension of the blue over to Domain/Broadmoor/Q2/North Burnet. Then start hitting the other metrorapid corridors.
That's assuming the original handwaving about ART buses still doesn't pan out for a while. If it does, Gold Line could be our last.
