In that case, I believe this building (or maybe a section of it) was previously announced as affordable housing:

Empire Development may belong to the Bassett family as they do own the motel, or at least did a few years ago. I believe one of the daughters has a MBA Executive degree in business. The Bassett family are longtime entrepreneurs in the Charlottetown area. Just grasping at straws but they still own the motel and the land I believe.

Bassett sold his roach motel to this Empire business last year (or maybe 2020). The Empire company is owned by people involved in Maritime Steel Erectors (MSE) in Borden. Makes sense that a company that builds steel structures would also develop a few.

Thank you for this!! Clears up some things!
If MSE wants to build condos, and I can think of a few better places than this location, the waterfront with a 12 and 15 storey condos overlooking one of the nicest harbours around would be better. They'd fill up in no time!
The NIMBYS would love it!

No, Biovectra is a pharmaceutical company. They already have a large production facility in Charlottetown. This is an expansion.

It’s a lot of coin for sure, but the building expansion is relatively small - 30k sqft is not that big. That money will be going into equipment mostly. Still an excellent investment for a growing sector on the Island, but not very exciting for development nerds such as ourselves.

Announcement Biovectra made in November. The federeal and provincal governments chipped in to manufacture mRNA vaccines domestically. 125 new jobs (+225 co-op) to be split between Charlottetown and Windsor (NS).

Ever wonder why the Sherwood Crossing development is taking so long!

"People have a right to appeal but the parties involved should have a decision within a reasonable period, like 30 days. But here we are, 13 months later," and it still sits in limbo at IRAC!!
Don Read, the appellant, and IRAC are to blame for the lack of housing which many people are looking for. I'm glad that I'm not having that on my conscience and can sleep at night!
Absolutely ridiculous that this is allowed to go on!!

I disagree with the belief that everyone should have a right to appeal. I think everyone should have a right to raise questions and to assemble. If a neighbourhood feels that council is making a change, either uninformed or that violates bylaws or legislation, then individuals should assemble with their neighbours to launch an appeal. What I’m getting to is that as individuals, most of us are uninformed and acting on our own perceived bias. When we sit down in a group and talk things out, our biases move to the back-burner and a clearer picture comes to light. A lot of harm -financially and to the community- can come from these solo appeals. Who am I, as a nobody like Don Read, to hold up millions of dollars in investment and development?

So no, on matters like this, everyone should not have the right to appeal.

Are these developers who are trying to do projects in the Charlottetown area getting fed up yet? The more red tape in their way, the more likely it is that they'll start looking elsewhere to invest their money.

It is only one developer who "seemingly" always has issues.

That permit was issued to Steve Vanduinkerken, who is listed as the president of Combat Computers on LinkedIn…

Oops, I meant to put that first sentance in quotations. I corrected that as it was pulled from a different source.
I agree with you totally!!
