Working on a land deal with the NCC

Love this idea for Ottawa and Hurdman specifically.

I agree. Uottawa has for years now trying to get a deal for the NCC land on Mann Avenue in order to build an athletic complex and little progress has been made.

A great water sport facility at Hurdman would also be a benefit to uOttawa. With Mups connecting Hurdman with the Lees Campus and the O-Train with stations at Hurdman , Lees, and uOttawa, access for student-athletes would be decent.

Add a boat house on either side of the river bank and you have the possiblility of training rowing teams. This possibilty gets a small mention in the uOttawa Campus Master Plan.

A superb water sport facilty would increase the opportunity to do research in Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation----plus research into Human Kinetics and Kinesiology ; programs which will be housed at the new Faculty of Health Sciences Building at Lees.

Grand ideas ,but I doubt a facility at Hurdman will be built in the near future if ever.

Great idea. I'm sure my great great grand-children will love it when the NCC finishes hammering out the deal.

Sounds like a fresh new idea and a great use of that land. Ease of access would also be great considering how close in proximity it is to Hurdman... but its the NCC we are talking about..

I doubt we see anything anytime soon, barring a miracle.

World Exchange Plaza has an entire website dedicated to the revitalization project. I'm just disappointed they won't build a link to Parliament Station. The main level is already lower than Queen Street.

Actually the main level is at the same elevation as Queen Street at O'Connor. As much as I would like this as well, I think the big obstacle is that the lower end of the ramp for the O'Connor St. exit from the parking garage is in the same corner as the connection to Parliament Station would be, and resolving that conflict would be a huge challenge.

I just want to know what they plan to do with those whales. I wouldn't mind one for a souvenir.

The whales have gone to the Canadian Museum of Nature.

I'm sad that they've been sent, effectively, to the Old Whale's Home. They were so much more visible in WEP.

The Museum of Nature is a far greater attraction than WEP and the whales will be seen by millions of people there, including many delighted children. There couldn't be a better repurposing of a piece of art.

If I recall correctly, what obstructed the possibility of a connection to Parliament station was the location of the underground loading dock that stretches along the Queen street side.

What’s really unfortunate with the WEP was the abandoning of the original plan to connect it to Sparks street via a bridge across to the Hardy Arcade. This was before the HSBC building was built, which could have had several floors of retail as well. The WEP podium was sort of designed to host a department store, there were rumours back then that French retailer Printemps was interested in opening their first North American store, but it was quashed by the recession. A good anchor here might have given the Rideau Centre some competition.

Are the Beechgrove Apartments next up for redevelopment?

116-120 Beech Street was purchased by 13272681 Canada Inc. (Katasa Group) from J & G Whillians Enterprises Ltd. for $11,525,000 or $198,707 per unit. It is improved with a three and one-half storey apartment building.

Oh I always thought this parcel of land needed to be redeveloped. Hope this purchase will lead to that.
