He’s very smart and a hell of a developer but he’s a bully and often tries to use loopholes to get his way. He also has abandoned projects when he can’t get his way, example is the former Holland college property in Summerside. He sat on that property for over 10 years and when it became to much of a hassle to remove the asbestos from the property, he just said hell with it, I’ll build a little plaza in the corner of the parking lot and call it a day.

Banks may be contentious, but Kelly has a past that is full of holes and the city knew it before they hired him. His dumb statement, "Kelly added the viability of any commercial project shouldn’t rest on the back of the taxpayers." is proof of that. Most are on the backs of the taxpayers, but this one would probably provide returns back as taxes, etc. Now those who wanted to move to, work or play in the downtown will have to go elsewhere. Furthermore, so much for supporting local businesses.
Mr Banks may be wanting his way too but he is the one doing a good thing for the city. Why would the city make changes half way through after giving it the go ahead? I blame the city! Situation normal, all f'd up!

I think it's pretty daft that Bank's proposal was ultimately scuttled in this backhanded manner.

This is the sort of quality infill that most cities would die for, and would help to increase densification in the core. I don't understand this.

I used to live in this vacant lot when I was younger (it wasn't vacant then - a three storey side be side duplex about 100 years old). I would have been proud to see a quality apartment building such as this arising in a place that I once lived.......

Plans for 6-storey downtown Charlottetown apartment building hit major snag

We already know about this but here is some more details on it. There appears some movement in favour of it by the mayor and council....and the residents and businesses. I don't think it's over yet.......but then there's that stupid IRAC appeal launched by a single resident. Only on P.E.I.!!!!
So hold onto your hats because it ain't over until it's over.

Final plans on the $25-million 600+ seat arena replacement for the aging Simmons Sports Centre have been approved by Charlottetown council......

I remember the old Simmons when it was built. I was a student at Queen Charlotte at the time. It was a barn, pure and simple. This replacement looks much much nicer!

Charlottetown council should rethink Port House decision

The pressure is on against city halls attitude towards the Porthouse project. Holland College, Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Charlottetown, to name a few, are putting the pressure on. Here is an opinion by a person who deals with affordable housing everyday.

Finally getting replaced! Really good to see. I still think it’s funny that Rush played at Simmons Sportsplex on the worlds stage tour in 1976.

No idea. I’m sure there is probably some around somewhere. I can’t imagine the acoustics would have been any good, so while it was Rush playing, it’s about as bad as a venue as they would have ever played in lol.

They played the Frank Crane Arena in Nanaimo on the same tour and that's not a great venue either lol.

The Queens Arm motel is in the front of the building so you won’t really even see the parking anyway, but I agree, they could have utilized the space better.

Seems like that part of the property could be redeveloped at some point down the road.

I agree. It’s a pretty old building so I imagine it will get an upgrade sooner or later.

It has been redeveloped over the last year or two. It is no longer a motel/hotel, it has been converted into bachelor apartments and 1 bedroom apartments.

My do-do!! I thought this was up behind the Holiday Inn Express. NOT! I see it is down by the old Queens Arms Motel, therefore we should have no interference from residents in that area.
Now that I know where it's going, I'm concerned who the developer is. I won't say anything more on that!!
You're right on the parking though, however I do know this, the owners of the motel and the Honda dealership next door have a pretty good rap-ore and maybe there is something planned already that will aid with any parking concern. Maybe, maybe not! We'll see! Traffic would be the other!
