Supposed to be a big announcement un Summerside today at 3PM regarding the old Holland College site at 425 Granville Street.

Sherwood Rd Apartment

This Arsenault project on Sherwood Rd is well underway. This is the first of two 36 unit apartments. I see they had to widen and repave Sherwood Rd which was a concern before this was started.
On another note, I'm still trying to understand why the first rendering wasn't acceptable but this one was.

Canadian Tire Expansion

It appears that Princess Auto hasn't put the CT out of business or hurt its bottom line as some had surmised. Looks like full steam ahead with this
expansion. This CT is one of the busiest in the Maritime region.
In speaking to a friend of mine at Kent building supplies, he said the same thing about it.

This project is just the beginning, a nail in the coffin for the PC Hospital which has been trying to maintain a Emerg department with a staff of retirees and EMS personnel. I believe behind the scenes, the future of acute care is to be more centralized and that would be in Charlottetown. It's coming! As the article says, "The new facility will be one of several collaborative medical homes the province has previously announced". I would be very careful what you wish for. This looks like a good project but I believe will be the beginning of the end of the PCH or a vast reduction of services. We'll see!

Big changes coming to University Avenue in Charlottetown

New lanes, cement medians, and a multi-use pathway will improve safety, say city officials. The biggest changes in the first phase will be at the intersection of University and Belvedere, which will include right-turn lanes in an effort to end the backup of traffic near the university......

I hope the city does this right and aligns the side walk on Belvedere Ave to allow a longer left turn lane at the intersection as it is presently a bottleneck and backs up traffic. Also, only allow the parking lot entrance by Burger King as an 'ENTER' only.



Also, the new right hand turn lane off University onto Belvedere is something I've been saying for a long time. I would prefer a merge lane but this will do. One thing, it has to be much longer than what is shown here, triple the length, to accommodate more cars.

I was just thinking the other day how I'm surprised there isn't a right turn lane getting onto Belvedere from University so hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

Also wondering if there are any plans for the abandoned(?) lot beside/behind the PetroCanada? Seems like a waste of prime real estate.

That lot has been essentially abandoned and for sale for years. I don’t think there are any imminent plans for the lot.

Work on a six-storey apartment building on Grafton Street in Charlottetown is expected to begin by September, the developer says.

The building would be located at 199 Grafton St., in what is now a parking lot behind the Polyclinic. It would contain 84 units, of
which 60 would be designated affordable housing, and would include a parking garage on the lower levels.

Sounds like this project is likely to not go ahead. Tim Banks, the developer of this project, Tweeted today that the city changes its affordable housing incentive in a way that has negatively affected this project. It doesn’t surprise me that when council finally approves a project, the city administrator finds a back door to squash it. I really hope this council gets tossed next year, and the new council finds a new COA.

It appears there are forces quietly at work here. The NIMBY's have the COA and certain council members swayed against any development, especially affordale units in the downtown. The business community in the area should be standing on their heads to get this underway and the roar should be deafening but all there is silence.
Time to get rid of this COA and the old school councillors who are not partial towards affordable housing concepts which would benefit a wide range of income levels.

But then council unanimously supported it, so I was shocked at the prospect that finally something would move forward…but nope, CAO pulls a fast one and rams an amendment through council to change the affordable housing incentive to make this project ineligible. Pathetic!
