Yeah, good point. Of course, downtown is where the tallest buildings are but also some of the most expensive. I think the days of run down, barely standing slum-style apartments are rapidly coming to an end in the core as a whole and as a livable community we've made substantial progress. I expect the trend will continue. Just my two cents.

Fort Street from Graham Avenue to Portage Avenue will be closed from Thursday at 4:30 a.m. until next Wednesday, Dec. 22 at midnight for the dismantling of a tower crane.

Motorists will have to find alternate routes in that time and transit will be rerouted during the closures.

I can't tell through the fog. But I presume they got all the balconies on if the crane is coming down. Last I saw there was still a large number to go up.

Richardson still tallest?

Just curious...according to tall building convention (and until they erect antennae on top of 300 Main) is Richardson Bldg still considered tallest structure in Winnipeg? It has antennae that put its total height clearly higher than all others including 300 Main.

Antennae aren't part of the building, so no it's not.

More importantly, who's climbing up on the roof of the arena to shovel off the President's Choice logo?

Here are the official Winnipeg height standings

https://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=95475748

Interestingly, One Evergreen, which was in fourth place when it was built in 1979, will be pushed out of the top ten when Wawanesa surpasses its height.

Also, even after 300 Main is built, Omaha will still have two towers that are taller and Des Moines will have one. I always thought those were two fairly comparable skylines.

Antennae don't count unless the are a structural part of the building.

Spires count. Such as the spire on the new world trade center in New York. IIRC the antenna on the previous building did not count. Interesting to note. The two buildings were not actually the same height. They were supposed to be, but just the way construction goes, one was taller.

Sort of bitter sweet though (the crane removal) as it is the only time we have had something at the 500 ft height in downtown.

Omaha and DesMoines have the one , two taller but their downtowns has no dense big city feel to them at all , few buildings in their cores that actually hit 20 stories , Omaha metro population is just a bit bigger than Winnipeg’s something like 940,000 people .

Hopefully someone can buy the SkyCity lot for $9.5 mil and we'll be in action again!

I know I harp on this, but that giant projected CanadInns logo, when they appear to not even bother lighting the Radisson sign, is such a sign of the Ledohowskis' hubris. Like, they actually believe that somehow CanadInns is a prestige, recognizable brand.

It's a sign of Ledohowski's cheapness too. Can't even throw up a real sign? Can't even get his projector straight.

That seems like a projector that you cant adjust for the angle. You'd have to stack up a bunch of books 10 stories high to get it straight.

There's projectors that you can adjust for that —. But ya, money. The probably took a projector from their boardroom and put it outside. I'd love to see the set-up they have out there.

I wonder if the sky walk link is going to be closed during the removal. I don't know if I would want people walking around the area if something decides to fall off the removal crane hook.

Also it appears that a Alberta based crane company (Myshak Crane & Rigging) is doing the removal. I was sort of surprised that large local companies like Sterling Crane or Phoenix Crane were not doing the job. Years ago it would have probably have gone to Litz Cranes.

It's weird that this building has about the same number of floors as 55 Nassau yet it's over 100 feet taller

Maybe we can get one of the crew that shovels snow off the Canada Life Sign to take a picture as they are across the street.

I can sort of see it from my office at City place but its just a vague spot on the roof of Somerset Place where the light comes out of.
