This is brutal, they announced tickets were going on sale to the public tomorrow (December 17), but sold out the entire stadium in presale that was not widely promoted. Don't organizations usually cap the amount that gets sold in presale deals like this?

And if both Montreal and Forge advance to the next round, they’re facing off against each other, which kinda sucks….

I'd take it at this point given that it would be an incredible achievement for Forge and the first ever all-Canadian matchup in Champions League.

What a shit show these tickets have been! I had both a pre-sale Canada Soccer and Voyageurs code and still NO DICE. Guess I will be watching this one from the comfort of my home. I hope that most of those tickets went to Canada fans but there was definitely a large contingent of determined Americans that were trying to buy up as many as possible. Unfortunately, this could result in fights/violence as there may well end up being many Americans sprinkled in the large Canada supporters sections! Go Canada!

This is assuming there's even a crowd at the game at all. We really don't know what will happen at this stage.

That's right, don't everybody lose their poop, nobody is sure of anything right now, especially people coming over the border.

Canada to face Guatemala in Florida ahead of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
canadasoccer.com December 21, 2021

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team will face Guatemala in a training match on 22 January ahead of three crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in the upcoming January-February 2022 window. The Saturday match will help Canada prepare for upcoming matches away against Honduras on 27 January, back home in Hamilton, Ontario against USA on 30 January, and again away against El Salvador on 2 February.

The Canada-Guatemala match kicks off at 18.30 local at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, home to CF Inter Miami in MLS. The match will be broadcast live on OneSoccer at 18.30 ET / 15.30 PT, including OneSoccer.ca, Fubo.tv and Telus channel 980. Fans will find extended coverage across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CANMNT.

“Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team looks forward to facing Guatemala as part of our crucial preparations for the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers,” said Dr. Nick Bontis, Canada Soccer President.

Canada sits undefeated at the top of the table in the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after their back-to-back victories at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, AB with a 2:1 victory over visiting Mexico on 16 November and a 1:0 victory over Costa Rica on 12 November. The win moved Canada into first place with 16 points from eight matches (4-4-0) ahead of USA (15 points), Mexico (14 points) and Panama (14 points).

Canada Soccer will continue to closely monitor all Covid-19 developments in consultation with the Public Health Agency of Canada and relevant governing bodies through the Canada Soccer Sport Medicine Committee to ensure the safety of all players and staff.

17-year-old Canada forward on trial with Liverpool ahead of 2022 move
Jack Lusby thisisanfield.com December 18, 2021

Liverpool are claimed to be running the rule over 17-year-old Toronto FC forward Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty, with the teenager on trial ahead of a possible move.

With MLS currently in off-season, clubs are beginning preparations for the 2022 campaign, which kicks off in February, with Toronto in transition.

Bob Bradley, the former Swansea manager, has recently arrived as head coach and sporting director, with a shakeup of personnel expected included a possible move for Lorenzo Insigne.

There will almost certainly be outgoings, too, and one of those tipped to leave next year is Marshall-Rutty, the young forward who made 19 appearances last season.

According to the official MLS website earlier this week, Marshall-Rutty is currently spending time on trial at Liverpool’s training ground in Kirkby.

Journalist Tom Bogert reports that the youngster had previously trained with Arsenal, Dortmund with “plentiful” interest from across Europe including other sides in the Champions League.

However, with Marshall-Rutty not turning 18 until June, he would not be able to make the move to Merseyside until the summer transfer window, though it is speculated that a deal could be struck prior to then.

It is likely that Marshall-Rutty has been working with under-23s, rather than the first team, while elite development coach Vitor Matos will be watching his performances.

The teenager has already received a call-up to the Canada national team, becoming the youngest player to do so for his country when he joined a team camp at the start of 2021.

He will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David, who have both made the successful move from Canada to Europe in recent years, while he could turn to two players familiar with Liverpool for advice.

U23s defender Tony Gallacher was a team-mate of Marshall-Rutty’s while on loan with Toronto in the first half of last season, though the pair never played together, while ex-Reds forward Liam Millar is a regular for Canada.

Marshall-Rutty became the youngest player to sign a first-team contract in Toronto’s history when he agreed terms as a 15-year-old in 2020, with GM Ali Curtis describing him as “the top player in his age group across Canada and the US.”

“He had interest from many top clubs in Europe,” Curtis revealed.

“It’s important that we are both patient and aggressive with Jahkeele’s development, but he has the potential to be an incredible player moving forward.”

^ At this rate, the Brampton Sports HOF is going to be 90% soccer players 20 years from now.

And as for CPL, I didn't end up going to the final so I wanted to check the result a couple hours post-game. Went to tsn.ca and nada. That's not cool.

Why would TSN have the result? They're not a broadcast partner and haven't shown any interest in CPL at all. They begrudgingly pay attention to CMNT now that the team is actually good.

Part 1: Every Premier League club’s young player to watch in 2022

With the new year fast approaching, Ryan Baldi picks out the young players to watch in 2022. Part 1 of 2.
Ryan Baldi sport.optus.com.au December 24 2021

With a new year comes new hope, and few things spark hope in the hearts of football fans more than the emergence of a bright and hopeful youngster at their beloved club.

The strain the coronavirus pandemic has placed on squad depth and the relatively new allowance of five substitutions per game means the fraught pathways between Premier League academies and clubs’ first teams have broadened slightly of late.

In the first of a two-part series, we’ve picked out one young player from each Premier League club who could make waves in 2022

Part 2: Every Premier League club’s young player to watch in 2022

Nothing thrills and galvanises a football fan base quite like the emergence of a fearless and gifted youngster taking their first steps in the professional game.

And, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to stretch squad depth to the limit, 2022 promises increased opportunities for ready rookies.

Here, in the final installment of a two-part series, we take a look at one young star ready to break through at each Premier League club in the new year..

Wolverhampton Wanderers – Theo Corbeanu

Canadian forward Corbeanu left his home nation for England in 2018, aged just 16, first attending a trial with Leicester before impressing in a try-out for Wolves, who offered the youngster a scholarship contract.

A frequent scorer at under-23s level, Corbeanu was a regular feature on the first team’s bench last season, before eventually making his debut in May, coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham.

Already capped six times for Canada, the 19-year-old is spending this season on loan in League One with Sheffield Wednesday. A strong showing upon returning to his parent club for 2022-23’s pre-season could see him earn a sustained spot in Bruno Lage’s squad.

Is the Hamilton instead of Vancouver decision a "cold weather advantage" one?

No, two reasons. One is the travel required as it is the middle game of the cycle. It was deemed better by all to not put the players through the extra travel and what it entails coming and going. The other reason is it is not an advantage vs the USA. Many of their players grew up in similar circumstances on artificial pitches and cold weather games. So we are at Hamilton to ease travel and also if we get a game with weather like we had vs Mexico the field will be easier to clear with less damage than with natural turf at BMO.

Coincidentally, I hadn't meant for this to happen when I posted these stories, Mitrovic and Corbeanu were childhood friends and are still close. And both will likely begin to feature in our NT in the not too distant future. Depending on roster size and if we make it to Qatar I don't think they will both make it this cycle as it may be too soon for them but both are progressing rapidly.

Multiple commentators on Sportsnet and TSN are saying Toronto FC have officially signed Lorenzo Insigne, which would be the biggest international signing by a Canadian club by far. Apparently a 5.5yr deal worth ~C$90 Million

Edit: It gets even crazier. A couple respectable MLS and European sources are now claiming TFC are lining up another massive offer for Andrea Belotti, looking to again outbid Italy's big clubs. Could be quite a makeover in Toronto this winter.
