I was meaning to respond to something someone had posted earlier (which I can't now find) but it pertained to how our team might be changing in the next few months. Most of our players have been rumoured to be moving onwards and upwards and the positive exposure of late can only help that. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong (because I'm posting this off the top of my head) but Canada has scored the most goals of any team (in the world) this year and had the largest rise in FIFA ranking.

Back to the players, in addition to the two below: Johnston, Laryea, Eustaquio, Kaye, Crepeau have been the talk of European moves, Buchanan is already signed (Club Brugge) and Corbeanu's training move may finally be paying off as he works to get back to Wolves of the EPL.

Canadians David, Larin rumoured to be joining Premier League teams
Adam Laskaris dailyhive.com November 23 2021

Canadian strikers Jonathan David and Cyle Larin have been instrumental in the national team’s rise through the FIFA rankings.

In this month’s 2022 World Cup Qualifying matches in Edmonton, David scored the winner against Costa Rica, while Larin scored twice in a 2-1 win over Mexico.

In all, both strikers each have three goals in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying action.

In club action, David’s been tearing up France’s Ligue 1 ever since he arrived in 2020. With ten goals this season for Lille, he’s currently the top scorer in the country, ahead of big names like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar. Larin, who first joined the Turkish side Beşiktaş in 2018, has a respectable four goals in ten matches this year.

And it appears that some of the biggest clubs in the world have been taking notice of the pair.

The Guardian’s Adam White reported that Premier League club Liverpool is showing interest in David, as well as Italian giant Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Turkish outlet Sporx reports that Larin’s agent has been in touch with Premier League clubs Watford and Newcastle. It appears like there is a contract dispute between the player and Beşiktaş in the final year of Larin’s deal. (Edit: The team wants to give him a million less than he is asking - elly)

The Premier League transfer window — when players can begin joining new clubs — will open up on January 1.

Edit: David scored in CL play today vs RB Salzburg

According to this article -- Ranking the 10 national teams that scored the most goals in 2021 -- , that is true that Canada has scored the most goals this year of any FIFA team. Granted a lot of those goals were against weak opponents (11-0 against Cayman Islands.) But we're playing well against better teams too.

I'd be hard-pressed to find any team that has risen more than ten spots in the rankings, let alone the 20 or 30 that Canada has since last year.

How many minutes could David possibly get if he were to join Liverpool?

I doubt if it is Liverpool because he has stated in the past that wouldn't be a place he might like to go. He is a man of resolve, as he has proven by his past actions.

Wherever he goes there is a good chance he is going to play, for two reasons, his age and projected ability and if you're paying 50 million for somebody you're likely going to play him.

We also have to remember he is now being seen as one of the top ten strikers in the world. What was that graphic earlier that had only 5 big league players ahead of him in European scoring. (David leads France in scoring ahead of Mbappe, Neymar, Messi) that's pretty good company.

Canada began 2021 ranked 73rd in the world, and as recently as four years ago the national team was ranked 120th.

As for the goal scoring apparently people in England were complaining but they put 10 past San Marino recently so they've had some "minnows" as well.

Canada to continue World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifying campaign in Hamilton, ON
canadasoccer.com November 25, 2021

CANMNT v USA 30 Jan Tim Hortons Field, Hamilton, ON

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team will face USA at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario on 30 January. The match, presented by Oat Canada, comes in the middle of a three-match FIFA window for the Men’s National Team who will face Honduras on 27 January and then travel to El Salvador for a 2 February fixture to close the window after the home match. Ticket details will be announced in the coming weeks for the pivotal FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Qualifiers match.

“We are excited to bring the Men’s National Team FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match to Hamilton in January with the team riding a nation-wide wave of support at the top of the table and after an incredible display from Edmontonians in November,” said Dr. Nick Bontis, Canada Soccer President. “We are looking forward to seeing a Sea of Red at Tim Hortons Field in January for the Men’s National Team’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers as we have throughout the Final Round with our fans continuing to push the Men’s National Team to new heights.”

The match will be the first time Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team have played an International ‘A’ match in Hamilton, Ontario. The Women’s National Team last played in Hamilton against Germany in an International ‘A’ Friendly in 2018. All matches in Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team World Cup Qualifiers will be broadcast LIVE on OneSoccer, including TELUS channel 980, onesoccer.ca, Sportsnet and RDS.

Canada sits undefeated at the top of the table in the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after their back-to-back victories at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, AB with a 2:1 victory over visiting Mexico on 16 November and a 1:0 victory over Costa Rica on 12 November. The win moved Canada into first place with 16 points from eight matches (4-4-0) ahead of USA (15 points), Mexico (14 points) and Panama (14 points).

CANADA SOCCER’S MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM PROGRAM

Canada has built plenty of momentum in a landmark year for the Men’s National Team Program that featured a record 19 international matches including FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the Concacaf Gold Cup. Canada have posted a record of 13-4-2 with nine clean sheets and a record 55 goals scored. Canada also set a record with eight consecutive wins and reached the Concacaf Gold Cup Semifinals for the first time since 2007.

Canada have played eight of their 14 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in the Concacaf Final Round from September through November 2021: three matches in September, three matches in October, and two matches in November. In 2022, Canada will play three more matches in January/February and three more matches in March. Along with Honduras, USA and El Salvador, Canada’s other opponents in the Concacaf Final Round are Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, and Panama.

To reach the Concacaf Final Round, Canada won their First Round group against Aruba, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Suriname, then eliminated Haiti in a head-to-head Second Round series. This marks the first time since 1997 that Canada have reached the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. From the Concacaf Final Round of eight nations, the top-three nations automatically qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and the fourth-best nation advance to an inter-continental playoff for additional FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™Qualifiers.

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team are two-time Concacaf champions, previously winning the 1985 Concacaf Championship and 2000 Concacaf Gold Cup. This year marked Canada’s 15th participation at the Concacaf Gold Cup since 1991. Along with their first-place finish in 2000, Canada reached the Semifinals in 2002, 2007, and 2021. Across the past five years from 2017 to 2021, Canada are one of only four nations that finished top-six across all four Concacaf major tournaments: fifth place in Concacaf Nations League A, sixth place at both the 2017 and 2019 Concacaf Gold Cups, and a semi-final finish at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Big news for the CONCACAF 4th place finisher.

Canada's World Cup chances get a boost after intercontinental playoff draw

The summary is that FIFA has decided that 4th place in CONCACAF qualifying will play the qualifying playoff against OFC and not CONMEBOL or AFC. Good news for whomever finishes 4th not having to play a probably much tougher CONMEBOL challenger.

Still no guarantees, but I'd rather play New Zealand than someone like Peru or Chile or Paraguay or Australia from the AFC.

Corbeanu is becoming a big favourite at his loan club Sheffield Wednesday (on loan from EPL Wolves) Only 19 and they are now using him as a wingback. My God, we have something we never really had in our NT, players who are able to run at opponents and Corbeanu is just the latest.

Hope to see him in January in his hometown, Hamilton. I doubt if he'll play but you never know, he got time in at the Gold Cup and Herdman isn't afraid to go with what he thinks is right. Age isn't an issue with him either, if you can play, you will play.

A couple of reasons: they wouldn't have played together for over two months and they will have MLS players out of season. So they will either have to rejig the lineup not using the MLS guys or get some game time for MLS guys they do use.

Friendlies of this type come with an unwritten law to take it easy on the tackling etc., so fingers crossed nobody gets hurt.

A great year of soccer in BC with the Whitecaps being the only Canadian MLS team to make the playoffs.

Forge have been drawn with Cruz Azul in the CONCACAF Champions League. Two-leg series, so Forge will be hosting in Hamilton and travelling to Estadio Azteca in February.

CF Montreal drew Santos Laguna for the same round.
