An ode to the Greatest City in the World:

Start spreading the news
I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it
New York, New York

These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it
New York, New York

I wanna wake up in a city
That doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill
Top of the heap

These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York

If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you
New York, New York

New York, New York

I want to wake up in a city
That never sleeps
And find I'm a number one
Top of the list
King of the hill
A number one

These little town blues
Are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it
In old New York

And if I can make it there
I'm gonna make it anywhere
It's up to you
New York, New York, New York!!!

As far as we know there will be a 500 room Hyatt Hotel at the top, it will not be unoccupied.

CTBUH New York City Chapter Presents: 175 Park Avenue Redevelopment

Wednesday, 08 December 2021 | Online Event

Developers RXR and TF Cornerstone and architect SOM present the redevelopment of the Grand Hyatt site located adjacent to New York's Grand Central Station. This project excels in many ways including complex urban redevelopment, integration with transit, high-rise innovation, and fine grained human scaled urban habitat development.

The webinar explores the complexities of redevelopment in dense urban environments and the integration of landscape and human-scaled spaces at the street level. Integration and coordination of mass transit into the project, resulting in better transportation solutions for occupants, are also discussed.

$20 per ticket for CTBUH Members; $30 for Non-members; Faculty/Students are free

Online Event
06:00 pm New York (EDT)
11:00 pm London (BST)
03:00 am Dubai (GST)

Man, I wish we were able to restore the original commodore. Its too bad that the Hotel Pennsylvania and Commodore Hotel will both be gone. I wish there was a way to tell exactly how damaged the original facade is under that horrible new one.

NY Guy, if the project itself is approved but the final height/design is not final, when would we know the height/design? Will there need to be a separate council meeting to approve the height?

Way too late for that.. the hotel is coming down along with the Hotel Penn. At least in this case, they are building an EPIC 1600+ FT tower in its place. The tower replacing the Hotel Penn is GOD AWFUL!!

Underneath that dark glass of the Hyatt is the original exterior of the Commodore Hotel, the first few floors had jack hammers taken to it to remove stone work etc, so the dark glass could be installed flush with the rest of the building.. as the glass comes down during deconstruction.. you'll see the old legend!

Fight the fight for the last remaining grand hotels of it's time.. The Roosevelt Hotel!! There is still a chance to save it and I believe I read hear a few weeks back that it was being bought up to NYC Landmarks for just that!

pretty sure man who should not be named but is orange and his corrupt backers took just as good care of the commodore facade as they did with the bonwit teller reliefs.

and you can tell because, well, its not like ye olde hyatt looks cheap/trashy or anything?

We won’t know for certain until construction documents are released, and even those are subject to revision. Also, there is no major tenant signed yet, (a signed tenant could alter things, even if just slightly). That being said, when they work out all of the very specific design elements, they can give a stated height (like the crown, floor heights, etc.) As of now, it’s 1,646 ft.

I wonder when they plan to start demolition.

I suspect that Blackstone will anchor this since crazy Steve Roth doesn’t seem interested in partnering with Rudin to build a massive 350 Park.

I'll keep fighting for the Hotel Pennsylvania, but I concur that it is far too late for the Commodore. Fingers crossed for the Roosevelt, so sad to see it close last year.

That makes no sense. The “Commodore” will operate as a hotel for maybe another year, while the Hotel Penn is already in pre-demolition.

There’s nothing to fight for. Hotel Penn turned into a dump and the old commodore lost all of its glitz when it was stripped of any distinguishing features and covered in that cheap glass. It’s best to move on and focus on things that are based in reality.

You're right on both counts. I am pretty attached to the Hotel Pennsylvania though (against my better judgement) and so as long as its still there I'll probably keep wishing they'd stop demolishing it.

You bet your money that this very expensive tower, in a very strategic location is going to be 300 feet shorter than they´ve gotten approval for. Well if I was a betting man, I´d be winning a lot of money from you.
