Air Transat (TS) Summer 2022 schedules is now out.

The only 4 routes in Western Canada they plan on flying ✈️ and operating to is:
Vancouver- Toronto
Vancouver-Montreal
Calgary-Toronto
Calgary-Montreal

YVR's European network for December:

33 flights per week on 6 carriers to 6 cities

AC LHR Daily 789
BA LHR Daily 351
LH FRA Daily 343
LH MUC 3 weekly 359
AF CDG 3 weekly 772
KL AMS 3 weekly 333
TK IST 3 weekly 789

I'll do Asia Pacific and Transborder when I get to it.

Of course the exciting return of Singapore Airlines kicks off this week and Qantas also making its year-round return in a couple of weeks. Air Canada is resuming its Sydney flights in two weeks as well.

Fair amount of heavy metal to Hawaii with AC daily 789s to both OGG and HNL and WS daily 789 to OGG. Plus heaps of narrowbody flights to HNL/OGG/KOA/LIH and everything else.

And some sun destination stuff too to Mexico etc but can't be bothered. Although Aeromexico is back to double daily to MEX by mid December…. But long-haul international is where it's at!

And yes I know always subject to change (goes without saying)

WestJet Eyes New Service to Spokane with Regional Subsidiary

In a recent application to the U.S. Department of Transportation, WestJet detailed its intentions to add a new destination to its transborder network to the United States. Specifically, the Calgary, Canada-based carrier plans to launch flights to Spokane, Wash. using its regional brand: WestJet Link.
If all goes as planned with the application, Spokane will receive a daily flight to Calgary and a daily flight to Vancouver, allowing for the airport’s first scheduled international air service in more than a decade.

What does permanently even mean these days?

I would expect one day YVR-KIX will return. When? Who knows.

My friend's Melbourne-Vancouver January booking via Auckland has turned into a mess. ANZ will not provide details on a flight to replace the Aukland-Vancouver leg that apparently been shelved.

YXX is closer to Vancouver (61km) than some city's MAIN international airports.London Stansted and Tokyo Narita come to mind... although you really are stranded without a car when you land at YXX.

YVR's high $25 AIF really cuts into the prices of flights to the US.

The main purpose for Swoop in YXX is to try drive out Flair... If Swoop markets YXX as "Vancouver", then wouldn't it compete with WS mainline service from YVR?

AKL-YVR on NZ isn’t set to resume until March? Not sure they were ever scheduled earlier. The current flights are cargo only.

NZ is pretty much shut off for now. Even from Australia the prediction is maybe by March or April?

Too much hassle traveling atm!

My friend was able to book on ANZ several months ago for Melbourne-Vancouver via Auckland, and then the Auckland-Vancouver leg got greyed out on the booking. My friend isn't getting anywhere with ANZ and now wonders what the flight paid for will actually look like. If it routes via that cluster-trunk known as LAX, my friend will go nuclear.

AKL-YVR was at one time planned to resume in Oct, then pushed back to Jan, now to March. Even AC was planning on running 3x weekly YVR-AKL for the winter at one point.

About one month ago you could book MEL-AKL/CHC/WLG/ZQN to be traveling now… not happening… sorry folks NZ is closed!
Global travel is still very unstable and can (and is) change(ing) on a dime!

It strikes me that, COVID or no COVID, that destination roster you posted would pretty much round out European destinations in Europe from YVR for a time to come. As you say, everything is so volatile at the moment that it can change any time, but (and if you include Icelandair to Reykjavik as the hub for Scandinavia) Europe seems pretty much "complet." Only certain frequencies might be increased one day, but I could never imagine a Lisbon, Rome, or Barcelona out of YVR except perhaps as possibly summer seasonal.

The ANZ website appears to be accepting bookings for the end of December, around the time when my friend had booked travel. Hoping my friend isn't grounded, but you have me cautious about my friend's prospects.
