It currently looks like at end of March 2022 KLM 677/678 between Calgary & Amsterdam will be on the 787’s again according to google flights ✈️search for Spring & Summer.

Though it’s still too early to tell as *changes could be possible* and will see as it gets closer.

^Looks like some nice changes for Western Canada for the KLM-Air France Group next Spring/Summer

YYC-AMS daily KL 787-9 by late March
YVR-AMS daily KL 787-10 by late March
YVR-CDG daily AF 787-9 by 1 June (first time this route has been scheduled daily)

The KLM schedule hasn’t changed for YYC, it’s exactly as it was when they initially loaded the S22 schedule back in March.

Runs daily 789 until August when it switches to the 333.

AA has cancelled PHX for S22

Not surprised American Airlines (AA) cut Calgary YYC - Phoenix flights ✈️ Summer 2022 as WestJet & Air Canada does well on it & while Flair Airlines starts (Seasonal) flights to Phoenix few times weekly mid December 2021.

There's enough operating YYC - Phoenix flights currently!

I am. PHX is a hub for AA and there's lots of O&D. You would think the double hub/O&D would make it better for AA than ORD, but there it is.

1. F8 serves AZA not PHX, and is winter seasonal. Plays no factor in AA cutting Summer flights.

2. There most certainly is room for AA. In the summer months WS runs 2x daily, AC runs 1x daily CRA. Even last winter when AA briefly hoped back on the route they held their own very well. So this cut is a little surprising.

I thought this route could have even gone year round. Do you think either AC or WS will increase PHX flights in response? Maybe AC goes mainline?

Not likely. AC isn't even planning mainline over the winter, let alone summer months.

WS already has double daily so I can't see them adding more? But who knows.

I posted this in the Canada thread too, but according to the LHR initial coordination, WS has managed to obtain LHR slots for S22, enough for about 4x weekly. Be curious if it actually happens this time.

Also the same report says BA has slots for LHR-YYC as well? The route wasn't listed in the S21 report. I doubt it will happen though.

Yep & I think WestJet is probably waiting to see what destinations in Canada the new Lynx Air starting up 2022 throws at Calgary YYC before it announces the Summer 2022 schedule / also make changes to it.

It's more likely they haven't finalized details. As for any other 787 developments that will be hold until they solve the 787 delivery delays.

Also WS already has made modifications to its S22 schedule. Doubt they're gonna wait around for Lynx.

I think it’s surprising — and disappointing.

WestJet and AC both largely handle tourist O&D traffic between Calgary and PHX.

For American, though, PHX is a major hub that would offer connections throughout all of the SW United States. That would have served some Phoenix tourist traffic, for sure, but the link to a hub would have been key to restoring business travel access to/from Calgary and tourism into Calgary from a big chunk of the U.S.

Losing a spoke into a major hub is really, really bad.

Fair point 👍! Looks looks like Canada’s Newest Lynx Air ✈️ will be known as (Y9) for short with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) code & they now have a Wikipedia information page too.

DL has now suspended YYC-SEA right through S22.

WS updated its schedule until March 31. CDG has survived the initial cuts and still shows in March for now. Otherwise its mostly the same as it is in January.

A few increases to LAX in Feb/March. BNA back in mid-March. SNA down to just 2x weekly, SFO up to 4x. Also appears BZE/NAS/VRA have been killed off entirely for W21.

Makes sense to cut pretty long, marginal-ish routes when most of the demand is gone anyways.

At this point, it seems like DL won't resume SEA and let WS do it (maybe double daily year-round in W22-23 to make up for DL's loss? (Edit: Actually it seems like SEA has been removed altogether on DL)

Hopefully, CDG will go year-round next winter.

Air Transat (TS) Summer 2022 schedules is now out.

The only 4 routes in Western Canada they plan on flying ✈️ and operating to is:
Vancouver- Toronto
Vancouver-Montreal
Calgary-Toronto
Calgary-Montreal
