If the Compass card had a scannable code, perhaps this would have already happened. My understanding is that Apple does not collect fees to store airline tickets, movie tickets, or other scannable passes in the Apple Wallet.

However, I believe Apple would want to charge processing fees for Translink to use the contactless payment feature. I think Apple usually charges these fees to the credit card companies. If this is the case, Translink may want to avoid cutting into its revenues by paying Apple the processing fees.

^^^That was all a guess based on my limited knowledge of Apple Pay, but it seems logical
I think they just take a cut when someone reloads their card with Apple Pay.

Ah, make the buyer pay. That's clever if true, makes it easier to get all the merchants on board.

Not sure if it's worth the hassle on TransLink's end. People already complain about a five-cent fare hike, are they really going to pay twice that just because it's slightly more convenient with the app?

Alstom has delivered a mock-up car for the 41 train, 205 car order for Translink to confirm the final interior layout.
Fewer seats which we knew was happening and LCD screens above the doors.

These will be Mark V trains while Mark IV will be used for upgraded Mark IIIs.

Nice, the front seat is back! And I quote, It's to "aid in comfort during manual operations"

Fewer seats were expected but they have gone too far. There is a serious lack of seats. Sure peak capacity may be higher if everyone manages to cram in standing up, but it's at the cost of comfort for all the rest of the time.

How are people to stand in certain sections with no hand rails?

Love the new interior layout of the end car and the LCD display.
Quote:
Riders will see more flex spaces on the end cars of the train, while more of the typical front-facing row seating can be found in the middle cars.

the name of these new generation trains is the Mark V. Lovegreen explained that Mark IV has been assigned to the name of the Mark III trains undergoing some minor upgrades.
So the new 5 cars train will be called MK V train(5xx)?
Existing MK III(4xx) will become MK IV and MK 2.5(3xx) will become MK III?

I think the intention of the design for end car section is for passengers with bicycle, stroller and wheel chair.

My understanding from the daily hive article is that "upgraded MK IIIs" will become MK IV. What a upgraded MK III is remains to be seen, maybe this means adding a 3rd intermediate C car.

I'm thinking this mock up is demonstrating two options for the wheelchair/bike/stroller area for one section between doors and that the actual layout will have seats on both sides between the other section between doors.

'cause we all know how often that happens...

There's one on the ceiling running pretty much the length of the car. It would work for most average height and taller people (see below).

Something I'm happy to see is a dedicated bike spot and those leaning pads next to it.

Cool

[QUOTE=madog222;9449916]My understanding from the daily hive article is that "upgraded MK IIIs" will become MK IV. What a upgraded MK III is remains to be seen, maybe this means adding a 3rd intermediate C car.

I don't think adding a C-car is considered a "minor" upgrade as referenced in the daily hive article.

Don't know if I said it here but it's rather strange for the mk3s to undergo a name reassignment after only a minor upgrade.

If that is the case, then I also assume that this will be a Vancouver-specific thing, unless the Innovia Metro 300 running for RapidKL will undergo the exact same upgrades.
======================
If anyone's wondering about the mk1 pair depicted beside the mockup, those are involved in the ongoing carbody assessment. Currently there are 1x 1991 pair and 3x 1995 pairs involved in the program where the goal is to assess the carbody condition to determine whether or not they will undergo refurbishment.

Info is on the RFP page but the bid has closed for that.

You told us you like the design of Mark III cars, so the new Mark V cars will look very similar.
Translation: we're relieved that the design available to us hasn't changed all that much.

Also: I had to chuckle to see that the discussion in the comments was taken over by people wanting to see washrooms in the stations. Translink, if you're really paying attention to what people want, that's probably priority # 1.

I'm pretty sure that they know about the washroom issue, but given that it will seemingly cost millions of dollars to operate them (or so they seem to claim when it comes to budget issues for already existing M-Line washrooms), and the fact that it is unlikely to attract many new riders, I don't think it's going to happen unless someone makes them do it.

I would assume they'd have straps hanging from that bar, like on Canada Line.

Oh ya, I get it. I'm just having a little chuckle for myself at their "we're listening to you!" PR spin.

I'm getting hostile architecture vibes. What if you've been working doubles all week and you wanna take a nap on your way home to zone 3 but there are no seats? What are you supposed to do? Sleep on the floor?

I usually nap standing - given the usual bumpiness of a metro, it's practically just as comfortable than the seats. Probably better that TransLink optimizes for capacity.
