Mass number of mk3s sidelined over the weekend due to issues in the articulated section.

No timeline for return

Expo Line to use 4-car formation of Mk1 (around a dozen trains), possibly 4-car white mk2.0 as well

The yard at Edmonds was completely jammed with Mk3 trains today, and I didn't see any out on tracks (at least between New West and Metrotown).

Ouch, all of them? I wonder what the issue is? That's going to hurt.

Spent quite some time on the line this afternoon and only saw 1 mk3, 1 4-car mk2.0, and 2 6-car mk1s. The rest of the trains were either 4-car mk1s or 4-car mk2.5

Im trying to get a twitter reply from TransLink, but the info I have from a screenshot is the issue with the articulated section.

I see nothing in the news. Being down 21 trains is bad.

Bit better than the beginning of the week - tonight I saw 4-ish mk3 trains. Still lots of 4-car mk1s, and still far less mk3s out on the Expo line.

My guess is they brought each one in for inspection head to head and maybe even had Bombardier on site, then are clearing each train one at a time.

So now Translink has bribe people with prizes to ride with them? Where's that money coming from, oh wait, from us. 57.4% of normal ridership after universities have gone back is pretty sad. Maybe they need to start rightsizing the system for that kind of low ridership. Also time for gov'ts to face reality and get rid of things like pointless Granville Street buslane which is creating huge amounts of traffic congestion for one pokey #10 dawdling its way up Granville Street.

Every time you tap a Compass Card onto a bus, SkyTrain, West Coast Express, or SeaBus fare card reader, you will receive an entry into TransLink’s new “Tap In to Win” sweepstakes.

This is TransLink’s latest campaign to help drive a recovery in public transit ridership. As of last month, ridership was hovering at 57.4% of normal levels...

No one is going to increase their transit usage because of 25 prizes. I doubt they'll even get many people to register for the contest.

The prizes are provided to TransLink by Destination Vancouver, Rad Power Bikes, BC Ferries, and Vancouver International Airport.

TransLink says it could take days to clear fallen trees blocking UBC access

link

After an extremely rare storm tore through UBC, downed trees have made some roads virtually impassable.

TransLink said in a statement that University Boulevard from Blanca Street to Wesbrook Mall is closed to all traffic due to fallen trees from Saturday’s storm.

Bus services on the 099 B-Line, 004, and 014 are being diverted along West 16th avenue until the roads are cleared using traditional buses.
Glad we're not going with a pleasure tram - one treefall, and now you can't even detour to another street.

Except that we do have that "pleasure tram" are our beloved Trolley buses (would be good idea to have a backup trolley route into UBC.

Already mentioned above: they're being diverted to 16th. Not optimal, but it's one step above a tram which can't even do that.

Is Translink even thinking let alone planning to offer digital compass cards we can use with Apple Wallet and Transit Pass? Would be allot easier to tap phone then pull out compass card and then try to not loose it when putting it away.

yeah, Compass Card should be available for Apple Wallet. it is amazing and now with some places trying out Apple Wallet for drivers licenses that will even negate wanting to carry around other cards.

If they expand Compass to be useful more things, like paying for everyday items at convenience stores or taxi rides, then it would have been on Apple and Google wallets already.

***Someone with more knowledge of Apple Pay's fees please confirm***

If the Compass card had a scannable code, perhaps this would have already happened. My understanding is that Apple does not collect fees to store airline tickets, movie tickets, or other scannable passes in the Apple Wallet.

However, I believe Apple would want to charge processing fees for Translink to use the contactless payment feature. I think Apple usually charges these fees to the credit card companies. If this is the case, Translink may want to avoid cutting into its revenues by paying Apple the processing fees.

^^^That was all a guess based on my limited knowledge of Apple Pay, but it seems logical
