Agreed, far too long for that small a project. Hornby is essential as it's the only street west of Seymour where you can make a left onto Georgia for the Lions Gate Bridge. The city needs to prioritize these last remaining through-streets as some of us fat-cats actually need to use our evil climate destroying vehicles for our careers in order to pay our bills and feed our families.

All this work along Hornby and the square seem very pointless. And all I can think of from seeing those orange flags is how much trash was created for a short stunt.

That pine tree up front will soon encroach onto the sidewalk unless they prune back the lower branches.
It should have been set back a bit more.

The new generation of decision makers make all the bad choices here. Just look at a lot of the public art around town.

Alberni Street, a major so-called luxury shopping hub, has seen no improvement over the decades. It is a major embarrassment for our City, considering how other cities have improved their prime commercial neighbourhoods over time.

As for the Art Gallery area, the initial phase of the upgrade was actually quite nice, but I see bad maintenance on the part of the City/Robson Square. Quite often skateboarders are allowed to come in to scrape and bang up street furniture, and homeless people seen sleeping overnight and littering, etc. No point spending so much money to upgrade a public square to have it look crummy and dirty in no time. People tend to avoid run-down areas.

I have a feeling the City is also making lots of money renting the square out to movie-makers. The area is often taken over by them pitching up tents. Utility trucks leaking oil are also parked there, sometimes for days.

Even Cadillac Fairview had ugly painted picnic tables and astroturf all summer on the plaza next to TD Tower.
It was touted as an art installation.

i think the common denominator here is this. picnic tables are cheap, add some cheap paint and you can claim public art. cheap cheap cheap is what they did.

Cheap is the only option when junkies will steal anything they can move from restaurant patios. Even they don't want chairs this ugly.

Just noticed that small outlines of ( I'm guessing ) children, outlined in orange, have been spray-painted all over the brand new concrete adjacent to where those small orange flags were just removed.

Those fins are honestly such a lame design decision. They block out the views of the building's facade to begin with and don't make the square appear inviting in the least bit from that vantage point. Function follows form in this instance.

Considering the street is a one way flowing towards the buildings facade, it seems so stupid to block the view. This actually makes me angry
