I appreciate the comments. To answer your questions; I am not the one who runs Philly YIMBY, Nikolai Fedak is still the president of all YIMBY sites. And I do consider myself a journalist, just not a good one...writing was never something I excelled in especially at school. But I was mainly picked up due to my photography and how I track developments over time. I too become frustrated with the editing as my information and wording often gets tangled with someone else's vision, though that's what I kind of expect.

When I was first contacted about the formation of Philadelphia YIMBY in April 2020, I was actually very excited from the start. The excitement, yet nervousness was pumped up when the site was being made in July and the first collection of photos were taken in July 29th, with my first article being typed on August 1 and published on the 3rd. The same month, I had rented my first house, with only my first YIMBY pay and a stimulus check to aquire the property. Flash forward to the present, and I'm not so pleased with my work and what others have done. I have basically been shoved away while new journalists have been brought onto the site, which I can totally understand as my work has not been satisfactory. I must move on and learn from my mistakes, but hopefully I can get back out there like I used to be. For a long time I've been wanting to sell my own photographs as prints, and that might become a new source of income as my journalism has been lowered (and architectural photography greatly trumps my hobby on journalism). That’s the thing though—your work was much better than most of what they’re putting out right now!

Keep trying man. You’ll figure things out. You clearly know what you’re into, and as long as you’re doing something that you like, you’ll do fine.

Completely agree - your access to model units and the new high-rises has been the highlight of YIMBY coverage. Keep it up!

Anyway, I noticed that googlemaps 3D doesn't have CCT2 on it & it just shows the parking lot that was there.

How long does it take to update the 3D Maps?

You must have been looking at Apple Maps. Google maps has CTC.

Yup I was on Apple Maps, but doesn't AM use Google maps? or is it their own thing & apple has to update it?

Apple Maps and Google Maps use entirely separate satellite data.

Go to maps.google.com and see. They updated Philly pretty recently, actually.

Google Maps updated many suburbs too. Call me lame, but sometimes I zoom over Gladwyne, Villanova, Newtown Square, etc. to checkout the teardown action.

A lot of teardown action these days in many desirable burbs. I do this at work when I'm in a bad mood, some people shop, I spy on new homes, lol. I view the city too, fun to discover construction projects here and there (besides the huge towers).

No story, just saw the forum mentioned on a subthread there and trying to avoid the particular individuals who shitted up that group spreading into here.

Ive never seen a pro build page with so many anti build & anti city people.

And it very well may be doing harm. As discussed in the Lowrise thread, they recently published an article with the wrong address and name for a project. If I Google "The Beverly Apartments Philly", that article is the top hit. A prospective tenant might click on that article, and see the wrong rendering and description.

"Much more serious and journalistic language" I mean, I don't mean to hate at all, but it's pretty obvious that it looks like it is written by a bunch of teenagers.

It’s funny. Pretty sure half the people on there really wouldn’t mind seeing the city run into the ground...

Once I saw people celebrating a Amazon warehouse being built in the neighborhood over the new Trolley Barn I knew they were misguided.

Not everyone in that group spews B/s but a big majority of people are unrealistic or just outright negative about the city.

Facebook really brings the crazy out and that group has gone even crazier as of recently.

The degeneracy of conversation on Facebook is nuts because you'd think that people would try to be more civil seeing as their comments are associated with the real world identity. Instead, I've found that conversations where profiles are anonymous (this forum, the Philadelphia subreddit) are way more civil (for the most part).

Why I stopped posting. I shared daily development / business updates, much like I do on here, and was meant with FIERCE resistance and name-calling on every post. So I said f**k it and and muted the group.

Yup, I've been on here 1.5 years and City Data for 10 and rarely get into a scuffle, usually just a debate and we move on. I've been personally threatened from some in the group (some are now banned, thankfully). I would like to start a new one, but it would get taken over.

Yup, I've been on here 1.5 years and City Data for 10 and rarely get into a scuffle, usually just a debate and we move on. I've been personally threatened from some in the group (some are now banned, thankfully). I would like to start a new one, but it would get taken over.

Why are people so hostile? I normally steer clear of Facebook so I'm not familiar with the communities too much but I can't see how people could possibly get so mad over skyscrapers lol
