The playground and spray pad is planned for the area around the Lawson Aquatic Centre and construction is expected to begin in 2023.

According to the report, Jumpstart approached the city in January to begin discussions about the project. The site of the Lawson — “future home of the potential new indoor aquatics facility” — was chosen because it is centrally located, close to downtown and Evraz Place, and is part of the North Central community.

“Clustering several amenities at one site creates opportunities for residents to meet and socialize, as well as future opportunities for playground and spray pad users to take advantage of the aquatics facility features, such as accessible washrooms and changerooms,” said a city news release issued Thursday.

So, an Owner is spending considerably more that they have to in order to build a Tim Horton's in a more sustainable manner and you shit all over the idea because it has a drive-thru and is therefore inherently evil?

Sorry to shake you into reality but that Tim's was going to be built there anyways, c/w a drive-thru. There's no denying that simply not building the Tim's would be far better for the environment, but that's not going to happen. Like it or not, society is not going to return to a hunter-gatherer existence living off the land.

I normally try to avoid this type of rant, but there are some posters here that can't be pleased. They cry about how there should be more sustainable buildings, but when one is proposed they're still not happy. Perhaps if it was a Starbucks, it would be OK....

edit: btw, this isn't directed at those questioning how the inner loop of the drive-thru is going to work. I'm also curious about that. I'm guessing, it has to do with the "mobile ordering".

That is a mobile order only lane. I’m not sure exactly how it will work (do they bring it to you, do you go in, etc.).

The context you're missing is as follows: the current zoning for that parcel only allows mixed use developments, not standard low density, car-oriented retail.

The ONLY reason they're making a big push for this faux-sustainable development is to get the mixed-use zoning removed! The current zoning actually requires a more sustainable development!

The additional context you're missing is that many of those people who live in the Greens will drive out of their way to get their morning coffee from Tims. So I suppose having a Tims in their neighbourhood will cause possibly 500 cars to drive up to 4km less per day, everyday.

Now, before you shit all over me, I will disclose that I never drive to get my coffee, since I see that as a waste of gas, time and money. I am also personally disgusted by the fact that hundreds of cars idle in drivethrus for Tims every day. BUT... this Tims isn't as evil as some may want to think.

Is it normal for a "construction" forum to be so dismissive towards almost all new construction and downright hostile to the people who put up the money for construction? It's a weird vibe in here. Maybe it's normal for the other forums too? I don't know because I don't check them. I do like reading about what's getting built or planned around the city I live in though.

So many posts are "oh great, another "whatever" or talks derisively about who's behind the plan.

I will say that this place is much better without a certain poster though who is on "vacation".
