Those are uglier than the pseudo-Chrysler buildings in Toronto.

They are pretty big and brash but that kind of thing works in Calgary.

I learned that reading The Devil in the White City. I was referring to the virgin looking boreal forest on the cliffs.

I think they're not too bad, whereas the NY Towers brutally assault my eyes and sense of proper aesthetics every time I drive past them. How they were approved by Planning demands an inquest.

They play well off one another. I find the design restraint except for the "eye" which just looks out of place.

Maybe confused with High Park Library being a Carnegie Library. He was a NY philanthropist that granted cities money to build beautiful public buildings. Same design used for the Beaches branch.

You guys are crazy. Banker's Hall has always been one of Calgary's nicest buildings. I am biased being born and raised there so there's that.

The mini decapitated thingies are called roofs. Don't you think it would look weirder if it was pointy?

Although the second tower, which I watched rise in grade 6 should have been redesigned instead of being another 80s knock off.

WAAAAAY too many goddamn twins in this city.

9th ave should be called ground zero because of all the twin towers on it. (too soon?)

I like Bankers Hall for it's form and it's well kept form. It may not be an exciting design, or very out there, but it's a promininent and solid design for a corporate address. The roof may seem a bit awkward, but I find it fine.

I like Banker's Hall too. It was one of my favourite Calgary skyscrapers when I was growing up.

The cliffs are part of the park and they were also designed by Olmstead, although I believe it's all native flora. There is no boreal forest in Montreal, it's all broadleaf deciduous. More specifically, it's the sugar maple-bitternut hickory biome.

In fact, I don't even think there are any spruces or pines that are native to Montreal. You need to go up north into the Laurentians before you start seeing the transition to boreal forest.

To be fair, the subsequent photos of the Calgary buildings make them look a bit better. That first pic at the top is barf-worthy, though. Po-mo bilge.

those horrible Toronto stumpy Chrysler bldgs are nowhere near as nice as Bankers hall in Calgary.. and that's not saying bankers hall is particularly nice either. ..but seriously, that comparison is a bit of a joke.

Forgive my laymen terminology. Living in the prairies the only forests I know are either in the Rockies or the Boreal forest up north. I thought the Forest along the Canadian Shield was Boreal but didn't realize (though it seems obvious when you point it out) that the broadleaf deciduous forest was separate.

Yeah, one is an anchor of a DT Core with integrated heritage structures and the other is a cheap and tacky disneyland version of New York architecture off a highway in a bedroom community.
