Wait, has the cap always just been from Walnut to Chestnut? I thought it was going to extend further south than that to connect with the existing cap from Delancey to Dock. Seems like a missed opportunity for synergy between the new park and the existing ones.

Yep, that was always (rather unfortunately) the extent of the plan.

I really just think any brickwork looks nice compared to all of the metal paneling you see so much of everywhere.

Main Street in Manayunk has finally been paved. It has been nightmarish over the past year.

This is the development right next to the Piazza in Northern Libs.

A few random pics in Brewerytown on Girard. I use to live right around here a few years ago. I took the pics for my own reference, but I figured I might as well post them.

Anyone know what is going in between the Dunkin and Avenue North on Cecil B Moore at Temple? There is currently one story of steel out of the ground but I have no idea what it will be.

I think this is the permit. Looks like a 2 story commercial building.

BUILDING TO BE FULLY SPRINKLERED. SEPARATE APPROVAL REQUIRED FROM PA L&I FOR ELEVATOR INSTALLATION.

Owner of West Philly subsidized townhouses plans to sell, displacing dozens of families. It’s an example of the vulnerability of affordable housing.

https://www.inquirer.com/real-estate/hou...adelphia-renters-contracts-20211018.html

Looks like big changes coming to 39th & Market in the coming years.

"Dozens of families renting federally subsidized West Philadelphia townhouses must leave by July 2022 after the owner announced plans to end the federal contract and sell the site to cash in on rising property values."

A solution needs to be figured out for the affected families but suburban housing has no place today at 39th & Market.

Even when I was much less urbane about urban design back when I was in Drexel in the 90s, my reaction to that development back then was "what the eff is this?"....really about the worst of the worst.

Why so many new buildings are covered in rectangles

I'm sure it's much deeper than this 8 minute video, but as a non-architect development-lover, I found this insight on the trend interesting.

I have it on good word that Leo Voloshin (guy behind Jasper Studios in Kensington) is going to redevelop the Steel Heddle site on Allegheny.

Affordable housing would help a changing area of West Philly. Parking is wrecking the design. | Inga Saffron

The site is at 50th & Warrington. The developer's initial proposal was a very nice, urban design. The nearby residents are forcing a new, awfully anti-urban design with tons of parking.

Current site:

Originally proposed development:

New proposal after addressing resident concerns:
